The June 16, 2017 Update

Blake is the content manager for DailyMTG.com, making him the one you should email if you have thoughts on the website, good or less good (or not good). He's a longtime coverage reporter and hasn't turned down a game of Magic in any format ever.

The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on June 16, 2017. Today's Update is brought to you by the Gatewatch finding out how the other half lives.

What People Are Talking About

The Gatewatch is getting what's coming to them—all of them. So far we've seen Jace's Defeat (above), Nissa's Defeat, Gideon's Defeat, and Liliana's Defeat. Don't you worry, Chandra isn't escaping unscathed either . . .

There is a ton going on in Las Vegas, but this is certainly one thing I'm sorry to miss.

Like I said, there's a ton happening in Las Vegas, and one way or another, Nicol Bolas is the star of the show.

That's the idea!

What to Watch Today/This Weekend

  1. Grand Prix Las Vegas

Like, right now. Probably. Depends when you read this. But as this is being posted, Grand Prix Las Vegas is being broadcast on twitch.tv/magic for your viewing pleasure. And, of course, you definitely want to tune in later this evening (local time) when Hour of Devastation previews kick into full gear with the Massive Magic event starting after the Grand Prix finishes for the day.

After Those, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. A Week of Change | Channel Fireball | Frank Karsten

Still trying to play catch-up with everything we dropped on you in the past week or so? Karsten has a recap that lays everything out Frank Karsten–style (but with less math than normal).

Those who want their announcement wrap-ups framed through Vorthos lenses should check out this article on Hipsters of the Coast from Beck Holden.

  1. Breaking the Gatewatch | Archive Trap Mini | VorthosJay

Vorthoses are eating up the defeats of the Gatewatch. From covering their eyes to looking back at Ajani's sage warning, the defeat of the Gatewatch is like catnip to all of the story fans out there.

  1. GP Vegas 2017 Legacy Day One Highlights | Wizards of the Coast | Meghan Wolff

Oh, yeah, during all of this, don't forget that a Grand Prix Day One has already happened. Wolff highlights anything you might have missed while a Dragon Planeswalker was soundly defeating you and your friends.

  1. Welcome to the Best Standard in a Long Time | StarCityGames.com | Brennan DeCandio

That is a bold statement, but one DeCandio is backing up with sweet, sweet decklists. And he's not the only one welcoming a new Standard today. Ben Friedman wrote "Third Ban's the Charm" over on Gathering Magic also looking forward to the new format.

Deck of the Day

  1. Kyle Gellert's Legacy Miracles

Reports of Miracles's demise appear to have been premature, as one Kyle Gellert managed to win a Last Chance Trial with an updated version of the deck. Clearly it can't lean on Counterbalance to lock up the game anymore, but the deck is still chock-full of powerful cards and control elements that few people are truly preparing for now. Don't be surprised to see Terminus and Jace, the Mind Sculptor still making waves in Legacy this weekend.
