Angel Population

Yesterday, we took a look at a cool new Standard brew that takes advantage of Séance to generate tokens of the dead, giving them second life, if only for a turn. Well, that deck also contains Trostani, Selesnya's Voice, allowing you to populate tokens created by Séance. While Trostani might be showing up a little in Standard, there is definitely one format we know she is going to be a hit in: Commander.

Trostani, Selesnya's Voice

There are a lot of ways to build a Trostani deck in Commander. The obvious is just a simple token-creation strategy, with all of the typical green-white awesome cards and all of the token-enhancing standouts. But over at StarCityGames.com, leading Magic judge authority and Commander creator, Sheldon Menery, took the legendary Selesnya leader down a different path. Instead of just focusing on the Squirrels, Saprolings, Soldiers, and Insects, Sheldon takes advantage of the iconic Angel tribe!

On the one hand, you have all of your classic Angel powerhouses. Baneslayer Angel fights alongside Sigarda, Host of Herons, protecting your life total and delivering the beatdowns. But Angels would not be all that exciting with Trostani if they didn't have some token makers to go along with them! You can get lucky with a miracle Entreat the Angels to get some big 4/4 Angels into play, or you can get there the hard way with an expensive casting of Decree of Justice. Most of the time, Trostani will just be providing you with a big life boost with each casting of an Angel, but there are plenty of other tricky situations to read about in the article here.
