Hanna Commander

When Gavin Verhey was eleven, he dreamt of a job making Magic cards—and now as a Magic designer, he's living his dream! Gavin has been writing about Magic since 2005.

Hanna, Ship's Navigator is a classic Commander general. Early on in Commander's history, many players latched onto Hanna because of the exciting effect her ability has on game play and the numerous decks that could be built around her. Artifacts and enchantments are commonplace in Commander games, and what better way to make use of them than reusing them over and over! In Cassidy Silver's recent Commander article, he revisits Hanna and presents an updated decklist.

Cassidy has several of the core artifact and enchantment cards that have followed Hanna around over the years, but he ultimately took Hanna in a different direction than many players. Cassidy's deck is chock-full of lifegain cards, planning to focus on accruing advantage in the late game. Well of Lost Dreams helps convert lifegain into cards, and Ajani Goldmane's ultimate can translate the lifegain into a huge creature.

Of course, lifegain is only so good in Commander, because of Commander damage. To ensure his lifegain isn't for naught, Cassidy has two ultimate lifegain themed cards: Felidar Sovereign and Test of Endurance! By keeping his life total high, Cassidy can use an alternative win condition to take down the game.

Whether you've played a Hanna deck before and would like to revisit yours or you want to build one for the first time, Cassidy's built is a good place to draw inspiration from. Take a look!
