SCG Blue's Naya

When Gavin Verhey was eleven, he dreamt of a job making Magic cards—and now as a Magic designer, he's living his dream! Gavin has been writing about Magic since 2005.

The resourceful players of team StarCityGames Blue put forth a gigantic effort for Pro Tour Avacyn Restored. The team was full of many up-and-comers trying to prove their worth, including Joshua Cho. Despite it being his first Pro Tour, Cho remained unrattled and made it all the way to the Top 8 with the team's exciting Naya deck!

One of the most-played cards this past weekend was Avacyn's Pilgrim, allowing players to push large threats out quickly. Cho's deck took the next step, also including Scorned Villager to speed up the deck even more! The critical mass of acceleration ensured Huntmaster of the Fells, Restoration Angel, and especially Wolfir Silverheart could breathe down opponents' necks far sooner than they would have preferred. Thanks to Borderland Ranger, the deck had no problem hitting its land drops naturally as well.

Avacyn Restored card Restoration Angel is a standout in this deck, flickering a number of creatures to good effect. Fiend Hunter, Huntmaster of the Fells, and even Borderland Ranger all provide a benefit upon reentering the battlefield, and resetting a Wolfir Silverheart midcombat can be absolutely deadly.

This deck's success at the Pro Tour might make it a great deck to port over to Standard. How would you adopt this deck to Standard for Friday Night Magic tonight?

Look over the decklist below, and also make sure to watch Joshua Cho's deck tech as he goes over the deck in detail. And if you want to see what it can do, go back and read over the Pro Tour Avacyn Restored coverage to view this deck in action!
