When Gavin Verhey was eleven, he dreamt of a job making Magic cards—and now as a Magic designer, he's living his dream! Gavin has been writing about Magic since 2005.

Commander is a world where you can do a lot of powerful, broken things from across Magic's history. In Bryan Stadterman's brand-new StarCityGames.com column focusing on tweaking Commander decks, he takes a look at a deck that attempts to do one of these many broken things: reanimate! And what better general to use than the Grixis tyrant of the graveyard himself: Sedris, the Traitor King.

This deck is filled with ways to slip creatures right into your graveyard. Everything from direct tutoring like Buried Alive to card filtering like Faithless Looting show up here, making sure your graveyard is well stocked—and that you have just the cards you want.

Once the graveyard is full, you can bring Sedris out to play. For the low cost of per creature, a creature can come back roaring out of your graveyard and ready to inflict pain to the opponent. Because Sedris is your commander, he too can come back again and again, meaning your opponents will never be able to escape his terror.

Of course, you can always just reanimate creatures the old fashioned way using spells too! Animate Dead is a classic, but other reanimate staples like Exhume, Reanimate, and Stitch Together also make an appearance.

Curious what goes into a Commander deck focused on reanimation? Take a look at the decklist below, and don't miss Bryan's article for his thoughts!
