Thursday, 1:35 p.m. - Interview with Alex Ullman
At the end of the 1st round, the community team is winning 59 to 58 points. This is partially due to Alex (aka Spike) being the only player to go 3-0 in the Zendikar draft. . We asked Alex a couple of questions after the draft ended.
As the only player to go 3-0 in the draft, how do you feel? It was unexpected and awesome!
Did you get a chance to practice Zendikar and the other formats much before this event? Not as much as I would like, mostly a few games here and there. Playing a lot of Pauper has helped me though as my decks are similar. It also helped me with drafting by learning the commons. My first pick in the draft was a common (though I ended up not playing it).
Who was your toughest opponent so far? Mark Rosewater. He is the only person to win a single game against me though you will notice that he had plenty of help from Aaron and Alexis and others.
How do you think the community team will do in the rest of the event? We only have to finish .500 the rest of the way out to win!
Thursday, 4:30 p.m. – Exciting 100 Card Singleton Stories!
In Round 1, the pairings saw fit to put Pro Tour Hall of Famers Mike Turian and Randy Buehler against one another. Turian got Summoning Trap in two games. One of them gave Turian a turn 2 Reveillark. Remember to be on the look out, or you may fall for one of Zendikar's traps!
In round 2, it was my turn to play Randy Buehler. His Stuffy Doll didn't bother me so much, because my Knight of the Holy Nimbus got through it anyway, thanks to its flanking ability. However, Randy played Guilty Conscience, which resulted in Stuff Doll damaging itself, then me, itself, then me, etc, until I was dead. How unfortunate! (Though I suppose it's fortunate to all of you...)
Meanwhile, Ryan Dhuse was playing GamingAngelSam. Down to 4 life, he gets an Earthcraft on the battlefield, which is extremely powerful when you have Wild Growth and Utopia Sprawl enchanting a Forest. He then tutored up Selesnya Guildmage, which allows him to make a bunch of Saprolings. Good enough? Well, he wasn't done yet! He follows that up on the following turn with Beastmaster Ascension and Eldrazi Monument. He swings with everything, and even though Sam's life total is 42, but this combo allowed Dhuse to get in for 50 damage and win the game!
Friday, 8:58 a.m. – Community 100 Card Singleton Decklists
These are the decklists the Community team used during the 100 Card Singleton portion of the event. The decks were subject to the unified deck construction rule, which means that the singleton restriction applied to all the decks on a team combined, not just each individual decklist.
