Packed with a deck running all the best red creatures and burn spells, Michael Jacob took the first step in cleaning the slate from last year’s disappointing Worlds performance by capturing the 2008 United States National Championship here at Magic Weekend in Chicago.

Jacob, a member of the 2007 U.S. National Team, defeated Sam Black in the finals with an overwhelming onslaught of Ashenmoor Gougers, Figures of Destiny, and Demigods of Revenge. Black and his Elves deck made their way into the finals by besting Paul Cheon’s Faeries in the semifinals. Cheon, the 2006 U.S. National Champ, took care of business in the 3rd/4th place match against Marsh Usary and joins Jacob and Black on the national team (with Usary as the alternate).

Congratulations to the 2008 U.S. National Team and all the other winners here at Magic Weekend 2008, and thanks to everyone who made it such a great event.
