This was the first multiplayer game format sanctioned by Wizards, back in 2005. Games of two-headed giant require at least four players split into two teams. In this cooperative game, each team’s two players share turns and life totals, while fighting together against the other pair of players.

For the most part, the typical constructed deck rules apply:

  • Minimum of sixty cards.
  • No maximum deck size, as long as you can shuffle your deck unassisted.


However, a few things set it apart: First, no sideboards. Second, with the exception of basic lands, a team's combined decks may not contain more than four of any individual card, counted by its English card title. For example, if one player is using four Naturalize cards, no other player on that team may have a Naturalize card in his or her deck.
