Stybs has played Magic the world over, writing and drafting as part of the event coverage team and slinging Commander everywhere his decks will fit.

It’s impossible to capture what it was like to be a part of Modern Masters Weekend in Las Vegas. There were two Grand Prix, hundreds of staff, thousands of players, and hundreds of thousands of cards present over the long four days here, and it was an extraordinary experience that was shared the world over.

These photos are just a sampling of what we saw in Las Vegas, and like the stories of the event to come in the years that follow these will only remain a sliver of the enormity of Magic’s historic weekend.

The sun was high all four days in Las Vegas…

…but it was under the shield of cool that players the world over gathered.

Row upon row of tables awaited…

…with judges and staff that prepared for months.

When the doors finally opened the fans were all greeted…

…and filled every space, from standing to seated.

A quarter mile long the room would reach…

…and contained every card from basic to best.

Players opened boxed filled with treasures and toys…

…and yet others celebrated standing out from the noise.

Some two-headed teams became much more than one…

…while so many others just came for the fun.

Veterans knew the place was a treat…

…and even the youngest…

…battled all they could meet.

Artists for Magic joined as part of the show…

…as others came with trinkets to just let everyone know…

…from far and from wide it was a historic event.

It took Grand Prix, and two Top 8s…

…to let two find their place…

…as champions of Modern Masters Weekend.

Over four days Magic had truly made its mark.
