The Alliance

The last time I Hada Freeblade in play was Zendikar-Zendikar-Worldwake Draft, and I imagine that's true for most people, but not Tobbb8. This visionary saw a world where Allies, Humans, and Cyborgs that pretend to be either could team up and crush their enemies. It's a fine world, and one I'd like to explore.

The premise of the deck is simple: cast as many Allies as possible, making your team into a nigh-unstoppable machine. All of the creatures cost three mana or less, with the majority at one or two, and everything either grows itself or everything else, and often both. Curving out with a Freeblade into Blademaster into a Battlesinger is enough to put most decks on the back foot, and even if they kill a creature or two of yours, you certainly have more where those came from.

There are only two spells in the deck, Path to Exile and Æther Vial, and both play an extremely important role. Opening hands with Vial play out vastly better than the alternative, letting you not only drop the whole Alliance into play, but to do so without regard to color requirement. Path is almost the opposite of Vial, as its sole purpose is to make sure your opponent's creatures can't stand in your way.

Sequencing can be a little tricky in this deck, especially if you draw Akoum Battlesingers and any of the Clones (Jwari Shapeshifter or Phantasmal Image). In general, priority is given to the Allies that grow permanently, with Battlesinger only becoming more desirable when you think the game is going to end within two turns (or if you have a ton of Allies already in play). Other than that, this deck mostly just plays out a horde of creatures, and hopes to overwhelm the opponent, which is certainly simpler than many of the decks in Modern.
