The world revolves around Abzan and Jeskai!

Of course, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but at least at Standard tournaments in some parts of the world, it's a fact. It's been about six weeks since Ari Lax won the Pro Tour with his Abzan midrange deck. Since then, from tournaments at regional game stores all the way up to premier events, these two decks have been represented in pretty much every Top 8. It's not surprising—many decks have trouble coping with the one-two punch of fast creatures plus burn of Jeskai and crumple under the raw power afforded Abzan by Siege Rhino.

That said, while they perhaps define the format, these two decks are not the be-all and end-all of the format. Players around the world are building new decks with new ideas and new cards, probing for weaknesses in the defenses of the Abzan and Jeskai fortresses, some with great success—and those are the decks I'd like to showcase this week.

First off, here's the deck Team Cabin Crew used in Grand Prix Stockholm and put Lukas Blohon in the Top 8. This BG Constellation deck has two clear paths to follow, one against Abzan and the other against Jeskai. For the former, the ultimate goal is to ramp into Hornet Queen using Eidolon of Blossoms, taking a slower but broader approach, while against the blue-red-white team it has main-deck Whip of Erebos. The four Arbor Colossus in the sideboard tightens up the deck against fliers.
