Bant has always been my favorite shard, so I was pretty excited to hear that Craig Wescoe was playing a Bant deck at Pro Tour Dragons of Tarkir. I like Bant because the color combination just does everything. It plays green creatures to beat down with, blue to counter spells and draw cards, and white for any utility spell your deck may need.

Craig's deck doesn't play out like a typical Bant deck but rather a Green-White Beatdown deck. The blue is for my favorite card from Dragons of Tarkir, Dragonlord Ojutai, plus some counterspells out of the sideboard.

I've always been a fan of aggro-control strategies. They work by applying early beatdown and then controlling the game while continuing to apply pressure on your opponent. Think Delver of Secrets or Merfolk decks. Craig's deck does this pretty well, especially after sideboard.

This deck is full of attrition. Most aggro decks fail because they get themselves in topdeck mode too early. Once their opponent has stabilized, aggro decks have very few cards they can draw to get themselves back in the game. Craig's deck plays a sweet combo that will ensure it never runs out of gas. Deathmist Raptor is already a pretty efficient creature on its own as a 3/3 deathtouch for only three mana. His second ability is what makes it so good. Whenever a morph is turned face up, he returns from your graveyard to the battlefield.

Craig also plays Den Protector, a card that combos pretty well with Deathmist Raptor. When Den Protector is turned face up, you can return a card from your graveyard to your hand. In most situations, Den Protector will return your best card to your hand and your Deathmist Raptor to play. That card could be a removal spell, counterspell, or an efficient creature. That's the great part about playing this deck; you have so many tools you can use to either advance your board state or get you out of a bad situation.
