Green Devotion (splashing Red) at Grand Prix Seville

Shuhei Nakamura is a member of the Pro Tour Hall of Fame, former Player of the Year, and is one of just six players with more than 400 lifetime pro points.

With the growing number of people participating in recent events, 800 people at a Grand Prix seems small. I guess I have become accustomed to having more than 1,000 people at a Grand Prix. Perhaps by next year, even 1,000 people will feel like a small event.

But enough about the future. Let's look at this week's decks from last week's Grand Prix Seville. I would like to start with Carlos Ballester García's Green Devotion deck, splashing red.

Green Devotion decks had decreased with the rising number of Abzan, Jeskai, Mardu, and Sultai decks. However, times have changed and they returned in Seville. The key card to their reappearance is Whisperwood Elemental. The card by itself is a 4/4 for five mana, but counts as a 6/6 because of its manifest ability at the end step; its resistance against sweepers is an ability green decks have been craving for. The ability to continuously create manifest creatures gives the green deck an edge in the long game—something it lacked.

Oh, I almost forgot. Don't count on that manifest creature staying a 2/2 in this deck. Your opponent might look at it and think it's just a 2/2. But, just a 2/2?

Nope, Polukranos. Monstrosity.

Fabulous.
