Today, we're continuing with Ironroot Chef decklists from the Magic Community Cup. For the Standard portion of the event, each team had to build a flavorful deck using four copies of Avarice Amulet. For those who don't know, the word "avarice" means extreme greed for wealth or material gain. Both the Community Team and the Wizards Team decided to build decks around the essence of greed.

Meghan Wolff designed the Community Team's Avarice Amulet deck, and she chose Dragons as the main theme of the deck, as Dragons are pretty greedy in Magic lore. As you can see from the decklist, Dragonlord Silumgar, Avaricious Dragon, and Hoarding Dragon were the team's picks, and they all represent wealth and greed very well. Along with Dragons, the Community Team also chose to include selfish characters like King Macar, the Gold-Cursed and Liliana, Heretical Healer.

The Community Team's deck represented greed mostly by building a four-color deck with a greedy mana base. You may also notice the thirteen-card sideboard, which is funny when you consider that there are 64 cards in the main deck. Perhaps they didn't know what cards to cut, so they decided to be greedy and play them all!

Despite getting some criticism about off-flavor lands and removal spells, as well as choosing the wrong Liliana, the Community Team still received ten flavor points for their efforts. It was also really fun to see both teams' Avarice Amulet decks in action. In addition to switching controllers of Amulets back and forth, creatures were also flying across the table. The Community Team's Dragonlord Silumgar was stealing creatures, and the Wizards Team's Daring Thief and Shifting Loyalties meant that no creature was safe from being stolen. When playing Magic: The Gathering, being greedy really does pay off.
