DailyMTG is catching you up on some of the best articles from the past year while our whole crew enjoys the holidays. We’re replaying some of our authors' most popular works and some of your favorites December 15–26, but don’t be surprised if we have a special present or two for you somewhere during the holidays…

But in the meantime, enjoy the best of 2014. Happy Holidays!

As any tournament veteran can tell you, 9th place is often the most heartbreaking finish. You are in contention for the entire tournament, just to fall one place short of playing in the elimination rounds. Often, the difference comes down to tiebreakers, which amplifies the "Oh so close" feeling.

This weekend, Kyle Abell had the misfortune of coming in 9th place...twice. At the StarCityGames Open in St. Louis, Kyle finished 9th in both the Standard tournament on Saturday and the Legacy tournament on Sunday. Kyle played Jund Planeswalkers in Standard and then this Sultai Delver deck in Legacy.

This deck, like all Legacy decks based off Delver of Secrets, functions primarily as a tempo deck. Deploy a cheap threat or two and then stunt your opponent's development with Daze and Wasteland. What helps separate this deck from other Delver decks is its ability to play a bit of a longer game. A low land count combined with Dark Confidant and Liliana of the Veil help give this deck the push it needs even when its early threats are dealt with.

Congrats and condolences on a weekend well done, Kyle. (Note that the reported decklist has only 14 cards in the sideboard.)
