Making the Leap

in a previous Daily Deck, I highlighted a successful Theros Block Constructed Deck from Pro Tour Journey into Nyx. Oftentimes, good Block Constructed decks eventually become good Standard decks, but it generally takes some time (and often a rotation). This deck, however, has almost immediately made an impact in Standard after its success in Block Constructed.

Gnarled ScarhideMono-Black Aggro is generally not the fastest deck, but it is capable of applying pressure while providing disruption. The disruptive elements of Black Devotion are also present in this deck. Thoughtseize, Lifebane Zombie, and a pile of removal spells carry over from the devotion deck, but the real difference between the two decks is in the creature suite. Whereas most Black Devotion decks want to use cards like Underworld Connections to get ahead on cards while winning the game with a singular threat, this Black Devotion deck wants to start attacking from the first turn and deploy a bunch of creatures quickly. This deck is capable of using its disruption to help end the game in your favor. Twelve different one-drops backed by Mogis's Marauder can kill an opponent quickly!
