Khans of Tarkir is coming! Three-color wedges are about to make their way into Standard and every other Constructed format, but by no means will they be new to tournament Magic. This week, we will look at Pro Tour–winning decks that have been based in one of the wedge clans from Khans of Tarkir.

Today's deck is from Pro Tour Gatecrash Champion Tom Martell. One of Tom's greatest weapons in the tournament was simply that his deck was an unconventional one full of synergy. This made it difficult for his opponents to play against. A turn-two Skirsdag High Priest could make a Demon as early as turn three if followed by Doomed Traveler and Cartel Aristocrat. Zealous Conscripts could combine with a sacrifice outlet so stolen creatures did not need to be given back. Blasphemous Act could combine with Boros Reckoner for 13 unexpected damage. The amount of moving pieces and interchangeable parts made this deck one of the mainstays of Standard for the rest of the season.

Khans of Tarkir has some of the same token creatures + sacrifice theme in the Mardu clan. Butcher of the Horde and Mardu Ascendancy have similar synergies to the cards in Tom's deck, and can combine with a number of other cards for some impressive combinations.
