We just might have stumbled upon a new Tarmogoyf in Fate Reforged. His name is Tasigur, the Golden Fang.

I'm not joking. This is my conclusion after testing for the Pro Tour. I will explain why.

First, good size.

You can tell that a 4/5 is great news in Modern by looking at Siege Rhino. Remember the biggest creatures for each mana cost. One, Wild Nacatl. Two, Tarmogoyf. Three, Anafenza, the Foremost.

Why is Tarmogoyf so strong? Because it becomes a 4/5 right away with land, creature, instant, and sorcery in the graveyard. A 4/5 is bigger than pretty much anything in the format. Not dying to one burn spell or Abrupt Decay is great. In a midrange matchup, whoever has the toughest creatures alive decides the match.

Second, it's playable for one or two mana on turn thee.

You think I'm joking? Picture this: Activate fetch lands each turn, casting discard spells, play one removal, and you already have five cards in your graveyard. You can play Tasigur and still have mana left up. I know this is a best-case scenario, but Tasigur's six mana is way cheaper than you think. It also slows down your opponent's Tarmogoyf!

Third, card advantage.

Although with some uncertainty, you get one card for four mana. Tasigur isn't only good for his size. His ability brings him to a different level. He comes out approximately the same turn as Tarmogoyf, has about the same size, and does more!

You're starting to like this guy, huh?
