Modern Red-Green Trap

Today's deck is a Modern Aggro-Combo deck that Gaku0221 piloted to a 3-1 finish in a Magic Online Daily Event. I call this deck "aggro-combo" because, while it will usually win by cheating an Emrakul into play, it can also end a game with a good old-fashioned beatdown.

This deck can actually combo off in two ways. The most obvious way is by casting either Through the Breach or Summoning Trap to find an Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. Emrakul is very hard to remove, and while you won't get an extra turn since he wasn't cast from your hand, forcing your opponent to sacrifice six of their permanents while attacking for 15 in the air is usually a good way to close out a game.

The second combo in this deck uses Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle and Mountains. Usually when you see a Valakut in Modern, it is alongside Scapeshift. Scapeshift allows you to win on the spot as long as you have at least seven lands in play. This deck doesn't play Scapeshift, but it does play a lot of ramp spells and Primeval Titans to find its Mountains.

Generator Servant is great in this deck. It's a card that never really caught on in Standard, but it can be pretty powerful in Modern when you're playing Primeval Titan. It's unlikely that you'll get to cast Emrakul with it, but it's not impossible if the game goes long.

Another card that is great in this deck and in Modern in general is Chalice of the Void. Chalice with X at one shuts down so many strategies. Most removal costs one mana, as well as Delver of Secrets, Serum Visions, most aggressive creatures, and most burn spells. Chalice is a card that you will have to build your deck around, and this deck does a great job of ignoring one-mana spells while still having a great early game.
