RG Elspeth from Pro Tour Journey into Nyx

In Theros Block Constructed, the defining control cards were without a doubt Sylvan Caryatid and Courser of Kruphix. The Top 8 of the Pro Tour saw a whopping 28 total of each of these cards, with all but one player using them.

That said, there was a lot of variety in the paths people took in building their decks—some were two colors, others three; some were more aggressive while others were more controllish. This shows how these eight cards actually accommodate different directions in deck construction by offering flexibility in color.

One of the distinguishing features of the deck we're looking at today—Yūki Ichikawa's red-green-white control deck—is the number of Mountains.

Why Mountain? The answer is in how many things you want to target with Chained to the Rocks. With regards to this deck type, even though it might contain Wooded Foothills, it's essentially a two-color deck, with white and red cards. With Sacred Foundry exiting, I wouldn't be surprised to see "8 Mountain" on a lot of decklists.
