Standard Abzan Warriors

You won't find any Siege Rhinos in today's Abzan decklist. Magic Online's Icculous piloted an Abzan Warrior tribal deck to a 4-0 finish in a recent Daily Event. This list is one of the more aggressive decks you can play in today's Standard environment.

The deck plays eleven one-drop creatures that attack with either 2 or 3 power, allowing you to get the beats in early. Chief of the Edge acts as a "lord" for your Warriors and can come down as early as turn two. Arashin Foremost gives the deck the reach it needs to attack for large chunks of damage. Finally, Anafenza, the Foremost is just a solid, well-rounded creature that attacks for a lot and hoses strategies like Rally the Ancestors. It can even slow down the transformation of Jace, Vryn's Prodigy.

Collected Company is excellent in this deck. While its main purpose is to gain you card advantage, it's capable of greatly affecting combat in your favor. Imagine attacking with a Blood-Chin Rager, your only creature on the battlefield. Your opponent doesn't block, not fearing an innocent-looking 2/2. You cast Collected Company and find Chief of the Edge and Arashin Foremost. Your 2/2 Blood-Chin Rager is suddenly a 3/2 with double strike. Suddenly you're attacking for 6 damage! Collected Company can also help transform Kytheon, Hero of Akros into Gideon, Battle-Forged by ensuring that you have at least three creatures on the battlefield to attack with.

One of the cards I found the most interesting in this deck is a sideboard card, Abzan Ascendancy. I've always liked this card, but it was really hard to find a home for it in Standard. This card acts as a one-shot Glorious Anthem, and every creature that dies leaves behind a creature with evasion. Abzan Ascendency makes you less vulnerable to sweeper effects and also helps you break through ground stalls. That's a lot for a three-mana enchantment.
