Pro Tour Battle for Zendikar is underway, and sadly we won't have access to the players' decklists until the end of the weekend. However, I do have another list from the Chile WMCQ. This is the second-place list piloted by Felipe Valdivia. Felipe played an interesting take on Jeskai, and there are quite a few Battle for Zendikar cards that play a significant role in making this deck work.

Jeskai was a very popular clan in last year's Standard format, so it's no surprise that it's performing well now. Felipe chose to splash black in his deck. Normally, when someone adds another color to a perfectly good deck, I would say, "Why ruin a good thing," but in today's Standard, the splash is very justifiable.

Crackling Doom is one of the most important cards in Standard right now. In a format that revolves around creatures and planeswalkers, this spell does a great job of getting your opponent's best creature off the board as well as removing 2 loyalty from a planeswalker of your choice. The 2 damage is very significant, as this deck plays many cards that deal damage right away, such as Mantis Rider, Wild Slash, and Jeskai Charm. That 2 damage may not seem like much, but when combined with these other cards, it really adds up.

Another key card in this deck is Ojutai's Command. Ojutai's Command is better than ever right now, and surprisingly the most important mode is returning a creature with converted mana cost 2 or less from your graveyard to the battlefield. Looking at the decklist, you can see that all of the two-drops provide card advantage in some way. It can be in the form of buying back your spells or creating 5/5 Dragons.

Speaking of 5/5 Dragons, Dragonmaster Outcast plays a great role in this deck. It's pretty vulnerable to pretty much everything, but an end-of-turn Ojutai's Command to return it to the battlefield gives your opponent a very small window to deal with it before it starts making Dragons. And 5/5 flyers are no joke; a Dragonmaster Outcast on the battlefield for more than a turn is usually game over for your opponent.
