Today we'll be closing out Magic Online Takeover Week with a Standard decklist from the Super League Championship. This is a Jeskai list with an interesting spin. Most Jeskai decks in Standard are trying to play the most two-for-one spells they can in order to out-card-advantage the opponent. This deck is doing that as well, but in a different way. Josh Utter-Leyton's deck uses Monastery Mentor as a card-advantage engine. Casting spells will churn out tokens, and if you cast enough spells, those tokens will overwhelm your opponent. Monastery Mentor is a great creature in decks that play efficient card-draw spells. It shows up in Vintage and Legacy a lot, because those formats have many one-mana draw spells like Preordain and Brainstorm, which can create a massive army with a Mentor on the battlefield.

Josh Utter-Leyton tried to replicate that style of deck in Standard, and he did a fantastic job. He plays many one-mana removal spells such as Fiery Impulse and Murderous Cut, as well as one-mana draw spells such as Treasure Cruise and Magmatic Insight. The one-mana cost is crucial in this deck, because it allows you to play many spells in one turn, which will create a snowball effect with a Monastery Mentor on the battlefield.

If you don't draw your Mentor, this deck still plays out like a typical Jeskai deck. Seeker of the Way can provide early aggression, and Jace, Vryn's Prodigy can act as a card-advantage engine that can not only helps you cast more spells, but also fills your graveyard so that you can cast Treasure Cruise. Dragonmaster Outcast gives the deck the late-game power it needs, and it can also be returned to the battlefield instantly with the help of Ojutai's Command.

The most interesting thing about this deck are the sixteen fetch lands. This high fetch land count ensures that you have enough lands in your graveyard for your delve spells and also can transform Jace, Vryn's Prodigy as early as turn three. Fetch lands are so important in this deck that even Evolving Wilds made an appearance as a four-of.
