I haven’t thought about Mardu Aggro in a while. I used to play this deck a lot in Khans of Tarkir Standard, but when Dragons of Tarkir was released, all of my focus shifted to dragons. Stormbreath Dragon and Thunderbreak Regent are powerful cards, and they work great in a Mardu shell. Jeff Hoogland had a different approach to Mardu last weekend.

Instead of controlling the board with removal and finishing your opponent off with Dragons, this deck begins the game as aggressively as possible. Monastery Swiftspear is your best turn one play, but Seeker of the Way and Soulfire Grand Master are great turn two options if you don’t draw your Swiftspear. Once you have your early creature, the plan is to kill everything in sight while applying pressure to your opponent every turn. Lightning Strike, Wild Slash, Murderous Cut and Crackling Doom do a great job of this.

Speaking of Crackling Doom, it’s one of the best spells in Standard right now. It kills your opponent’s best creature while dealing more damage to your opponent. The damage can be redirected to planeswalkers, making Crackling Doom a potential two-for-one. Most importantly, it kills a hexproof Dragonlord Ojutai. Three colored mana symbols make this card hard to cast, but the payoff is huge if you can do it.

Aggressive decks are known for having a great early game but a pretty weak late game. Four copies of Outpost Siege guarantee that the cards will keep flowing. The longer the game goes, the larger advantage you will have, as you will draw double the cards that your opponent will. Outpost Siege can be a little awkward alongside expensive Dragons and planeswalkers, but in an aggressive deck such as this one, the card really shines.
