Storm at SCG Invitational Challenge

Shuhei Nakamura is a member of the Pro Tour Hall of Fame, former Player of the Year, and is one of just six players with more than 400 lifetime pro points.

The other day, I had a chance to participate in a Legacy event in Osaka. I was pleasantly surprised by how many people there were. What's more, I hear Grand Prix Kyoto, Japan's first Legacy Grand Prix, already has more than 1,000 people signed up for it. Perhaps the new wave of Legacy has arrived in Japan.

This week, I would like to talk about five decks I think are well positioned in Legacy now. I will start with Yuta Takahashi's Storm that he used to win the Invitational Challenge. I remember the deck being called Ad Nauseam, but now, looking at the list I, understand why it's called Storm.

Basically, the deck wins by searching for its win condition, Tendrils of Agony, via Infernal Tutor. However, that's not quite enough storm, so the deck takes a little detour. That detour being either recasting spells from Past in Flames or using Ad Nauseam to find more spells. Lion's Eye Diamond's drawback even works as a plus in this deck. By activating the diamond in response to Infernal Tutor, you can search with the hellbent effect. It's not unusual for the deck to finish the game by playing the card it searched after emptying its hand with the mana from Lion's Eye Diamond.

The deck also has strength in how much hand disruption it plays. The combo part of the deck does not take up much space, and don't forget the storm count of those discard spells.
