From Friday Night Magic to the Pro Tour, Adam Prosak loves all types of tournament Magic. Currently, Adam is working in R&D as a developer.

DailyMTG is catching you up on some of the best articles from the past year while our whole crew enjoys the holidays. We’re replaying some of our authors' most popular works and some of your favorites December 15–26, but don’t be surprised if we have a special present or two for you somewhere during the holidays…

But in the meantime, enjoy the best of 2014. Happy Holidays!

Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle was once banned from Modern, largely due to its nature as a one-card combo kill with Scapeshift. Simply playing seven lands and then Scapeshifting will deal 18 damage if you have six Mountains and a Valakut in your library. Since its unbanning, Scapeshift has existed largely on the fringe of the Modern format, capable of winning tournaments but rarely the most popular deck.

Shogo Yamasaki took advantage of this, unleashing the power of the combination while avoiding the hate cards that were targeted at other archetypes. Shogo's deck featured many different ways to harness the power of Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle in addition to the classic Scapeshift. Primeval Titan will allow you to quickly assemble enough Mountains to deal lethal damage, much like it did when the pair were Standard legal. Prismatic Omen also works wonders with Valakut, making the land a Mountain itself! Usually, you have to wait until your seventh land at minimum to start dealing damage, but Prismatic Omen makes it so that your sixth land can deal 3 damage. Prismatic Omen allows your Misty Rainforests and Scalding Tarns to trigger twice.

Congratulation to Shogo Yamasaki for winning an invitation to Pro Tour Khans of Tarkir at Legends Warehouse in Toronto, Canada!
