Continuing this week's theme, today's featured deck is a Vintage version of the blue-red Delver of Secrets archetype.

If we start with the Legacy version as the base, then the Vintage version would be considered an upgrade. The first big difference—THE big difference—is, of course, the presence of the legendary Power Nine. The original Mox series, Time Walk, Ancestral Recall, and—last but certainly not least—the king of the "what were they thinking?" category: the Black Lotus.

In switching from Legacy to Modern, it was mainly through the lands that we saw a difference in the formats. Going the other direction, to Vintage, the difference is starkly defined by sheer card power. Unlike Brainstorm, in Vintage your one-mana draw-three spell doesn't require you to put two of the cards back in your library. I just can't come up with words to adequately express the difference in scale between Legacy and Vintage in terms of power. I mean, a card that lets you take an extra turn for only two mana?

That said, even the Vintage version is clearly a derivative of the blue-red Delver deck—they may do it better, they may do it cheaper, but the cards in the deck have the same function, and the deck plays out the same way as it does in Legacy and Modern. Of course, only in Vintage can you cast Young Pyromancer on turn one, make a ton of tokens, and then take an extra turn to win.
