UR Storm at Worlds

Shuhei Nakamura is a member of the Pro Tour Hall of Fame, former Player of the Year, and is one of just six players with more than 400 lifetime pro points.

Editor’s Note: Shuhei submitted his Daily Decks before the Banned and Restricted Announcement and, as such, did not know the contents of the announcement. We still thought it was worth revisiting the format prior to the announcement.

Combo deck are always asking themselves two questions. One, how can I defeat my opponent even faster? Two, how can I resist my opponent's disruption?

One answer to these questions is to completely ignore the opponent and pursue speed alone.

This was the answer Owen and his teammates brought to the table at the World Championship.

If the opponent doesn't interfere, the deck can play Goblin Electromancer and go off next turn. The deck plays mana acceleration (which are Dark Rituals, thanks to the Electromancer), cheap draw spells, and a combination of the two—Manamorphose—to thread into Past in Flames and finally round back with 20+ damage from Grapeshot.

However, there are absolutely zero ways to disrupt the opponent.

With this cost, the deck has obtained the possibility of a three-turn kill—originally not thought possible in Modern.
