White-Black Tokens at Pro Tour Fate Reforged

Shuhei Nakamura is a member of the Pro Tour Hall of Fame, former Player of the Year, and is one of just six players with more than 400 lifetime pro points.

This is another old deck. Luis Scott-Vargas once took it to 2nd place at the Standard Pro Tour in Kyoto. The deck evolved into its present form in Modern with the printing of Lingering Souls. I remember Pro Tour Dragon's Maze Champion Craig Wescoe loving the deck. This deck also disappeared with the appearance of Birthing Pod, but the Czech and Slovak Team Well Played brought it to success at Pro Tour Fate Reforged.

White-Black Token's strongpoint is against beatdown. The tokens start out as a bunch of 1/1s but change into a strong army with enchantments like Intangible Virtue. Give the deck one turn and what started out as three 1/1s become three 2/2s or 3/3s. You'll really feel the pressure facing a huge army of tokens with an almost pointless removal spell in hand. Your attacks are negated, and the game usually ends one-sidedly in your opponent's favor.

I love seeing games with a 5/6 Tarmogoyf helplessly facing down four 3/3 flying Sprit tokens with vigilance. The return of Bitterblossom is a boost to the deck. Also, having hand disruption gives it a chance against combo decks, so there aren't really any bad matchups.
