Blake is the content manager for DailyMTG.com, making him the one you should email if you have thoughts on the website, good or less good (or not good). He's a longtime coverage reporter and hasn't turned down a game of Magic in any format ever.

The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know for today, January 19, 2016. Today's Update is brought to you by Vintage Super League, and West Wing references.

Today's Must See

  1. Legacy Dredge In Our Schools! Protect Your Magic: The Gathering Values!| Tolarian Community College

One of these days, the Professor will post a deck tech or preview video that isn't awesome. Probably. Maybe. I mean, it's possible, right?

Well, that day isn't today. This Legacy Dredge primer is something non-Legacy players might normally skip, but the first three minutes alone are worth viewing for anyone who's a fan of Magic. Come for the old-timey social satire, stay for a solid primer on one of the scariest decks in Legacy.

I should also point out that the Professor and Jimmy Wong (he of The Command Zone podcast) recently joined forces for Kitchen Table Fables, short videos about the imaginary world behind kitchen table battles. The first two videos can be viewed here and here.

After Those, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. Oath of the Gatewatch Constructed Set Review: White | ChannelFireball | Luis Scott-Vargas

Last week we highlighted LSV's Limited reviews, and his Constructed reviews are just as much required reading. They start today with white.

  1. OGW Policy Changes | blogs.magicjudges.org | Toby Elliott

Did you know that the judging community has a central blog? And you can read that blog any time you like? True story! The update posted yesterday centers around a change in terminology and how judges handle issues with hidden information. For the tournament minded, this is worth a peek.

Pauper and Commander Are Formats Too

  1. E032—The Commander Rules Update | Commanderin' MTG Podcast

Sheldon Menery of the Commander rules committee joined the Commanderin' podcast to discuss the updates to the Commander rules and ban list. Not discussed: why is the Prophet of Kruphix way, way better than Kruphix himself? Seems like Kruphix placed a lot of trust in his prophets, and then just kind of sat at home accumulating mana.

  1. Cloud Burst| PureMTGO.com | Alex Ullman

No player is more outspoken about Pauper than Alex Ullman, and while everyone else was murmuring over the bannings effects on Modern, Alex was typing up a few hundred words on Cloud of Faeries.

  1. Prophet of Kruphix Banned, Proxies, Counterfeits, and More—#93 | The Command Zone

The Command Zone is up to discuss Prophet of Kruphix and all the news of last week. Plus they make a West Wing reference, so they get my vote.

Community Spotlight

  1. You are the Mana Source. And we need your help to continue making Magic: The Gathering videos! | The Mana Source | Wedge

Posted without comment or endorsement, but if you like The Mana Source, this video is worth viewing.

What People Are Talking About

Aaron Forsythe gave a little peek into the process of creating the colorless mana symbol and reminder text.

Is Shiro allowed in the hospital? By the time you read this, Brian should be out of surgery, and we all wish him a speedy recovery.

Deck of the Day

  1. Vintage Super League | Randy Buehler Goes Green

If you haven't already checked out the Vintage Super League streaming weekly on twitch.tv/magic, then why not tonight? I mean, it's Tuesday. What else is there to do on a Tuesday? Tacos? You can eat those while you watch the VSL. It's a two-for-Taco-Tuesday!

At any rate, every week a bunch of Vintage stalwarts battle in the most powerful Magic format around. Tonight is the halfway point of the season, and it's still a pretty tight race up and down.

And if you tune in to the Vintage Super League tonight, you might just catch Randy Buehler battling, once again, with Goblin Charbelcher—though this time, he's gone green. The Living Wish sideboard gives him greater access to a few lands without dampening his ability to Charbelcher for lethal. Is it good? He's currently 2-2 in the League, so the answer is a resounding...maybe?
