Blake is the content manager for, making him the one you should email if you have thoughts on the website, good or less good (or not good). He's a longtime coverage reporter and hasn't turned down a game of Magic in any format ever.

The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on May 24, 2016. Today's Update is brought to you by Comet Storm, the Comet Storm of Comet Storms.

Today's EMA Previews

  1. Eternal Masters Preview Week continues! We had three preview articles on this website (hopefully you've already seen them), and a few more elsewhere in the internets. Here's what we've got so far:

Also, check out this preview video at TCGPlayer for a very, very spicy preview.

Additionally, watch as the day goes on for previews from the Vintage Super League, The Mana Source (for real today), and South American YouTuber Umotivo (i.e. not English).

Today's Must

  1. The Modern Weekend Report | Monday Night Magic | Chewie Slate, Bill Bloodworth, and Aaron Lacluyz

There was a lot to digest from Modern Weekend this past, um, weekend. The Monday Night Magic podcast crew not only breaks down the tournament results, but has an interview with Grand Prix Charlotte Head Judge Scott Marshall to talk a bit more about the technical difficulties that caused issues with the tournament, and how the judge and tournament crew tackled those issues.

After Those, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. Eternal Masters Spoilers: Jace, the Mind Sculptor, Chrome Mox, Necropotence, and more—MTG! | The Mana Source | Wedge

Get ready, because Wedge likes to crank out preview videos when we start dropping preview bombs all over the internet. I wouldn't be shocked to see a new video comes pretty much every day as we reveal the whole set.

  1. Time Spiral-Planar Chaos-Future Sight Draft (Videos) | TCGPlayer | Adam Yurchick

While we're all very excited about Eternal Masters, it's not quite out yet. But that doesn't mean you can't get your nostalgia fix with Magic Online's Modern flashback drafts. And what's more nostalgic than a flashback draft of a set that calls back to much of Magic's history? Flashback-ception, if you're fond of Inception jokes. Which I am.

Here, Adam Yurchick runs through a Time Spiral block draft and opens all of the Tarmogoyfs. Or none of them. You'll have to watch and see.

  1. GP Charlotte Chronicles | ChannelFireball | Brian Braun-Duin

BBD had a blast at Grand Prix Charlotte playing some of his favorite Standard cards of the last few years—and he won plenty. Despite the well-publicized issues with the tournament, it was "one of the most fun tournaments" BBD has played in a long time.

  1. Daily Digest: Cruel Control | StarCityGames | Michael Majors

You had me at Cruel Control.

For those who don't know (which is probably all of you), Cruel Control has been my jam ever since Cruel Ultimatum was released—even in Modern. In fact, I have two different versions of Cruel Control for Modern (one Signet based, one not). So Michael Majors took a shortcut to my heart and dug up a Cruel Control deck in Modern.

Still, needs more Mulldrifter.

What People Are Talking About

Gamers Helping Gamers is a charity aimed at helping Magic players go to college, and it has been around and funding players' educations for several years now. It's a cause that helps out the Magic community in a pretty direct way. In this case, Jon Finkel is promoting an auction for a Mizzix of the Izmagnus Commander deck built by Kenji Egashira. It's a pretty charitable way to get started in Commander.

Get it? Charitable? Oh man, I'll be here I'll week. You're welcome.

  1. A neat Easter egg in the EMA Enlightened Tutor art

There are a few cool callbacks in some of the new art already shown. Black Lotus in the Goblin Charbelcher, anyone?

What to Watch Tonight

  1. Vintage Super League

If Eternal Masters has got you all in a tizzy, there's only one place on the internet to hang out tonight.

Vintage Super League returns tonight at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on with some old-school goodness, plus some old-school preview cards.

Yes, cards, plural.

Deck of the Day

  1. Pascal Maynard's Bant Eldrazi—Grand Prix Los Angeles Top 8

Oh, I'm sorry. Did you think the Eldrazi would go away just because we took their Eye?

Pascal Maynard begs to differ, making the Top 8 of Grand Prix Los Angeles on the back of the Eldrazi Menace That Once Was. Now considerably slower, but picking up Noble Hierarch and Birds of Paradise to help with the loss of Eye of Ugin, this is the Eldrazi deck R&D envisioned when it banned only half of the Eldrazi lands available in Modern. With Eldrazi Temple still available, Maynard was able to smash and disrupt his way to the Top 8. He even had the Drowner of Hope and Eldrazi Displacer combo to drown out opponents who tried to play fair. For anyone playing unfair, Grafdigger's Cage, Stubborn Denial, Negate, and a few anti-artifact spells were ready and waiting in his sideboard.
