The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on June 7, 2016. Today's Update is brought to you by our amazing artists.

What People Are Talking About

The Chesley Award—yes, Chesley, that isn't a typo—is one of the most prestigious awards science fiction and fantasy artists can receive. Over the years, a number of Magic artists and art pieces have won or been nominated for the award bestowed by the Association of Science Fiction & Fantasy Artists. You can see all of the nominees here, but specifically the Magic ones (all in the Best Gaming-Related Illustration category) include:

Yes, Magic cards have a clean sweep of nominations for that category. Additionally, Wizard's own Jeremy Jarvis was nominated for Best Art Director.

So, yeah, it's kind of a big deal.

It's hard not to feel good about our new CEO. Sure, his business background is top-notch, etc., etc., but what caught everyone's attention was that he was a gamer—and not just any gamer, but a legitimate, full-on Dungeons & Dragons and Magic player. He's our kind of people, and we're excited to have him.

After Those, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. From the Spice Cabinet—The Participation Trophy | Hipsters of the Coast | Jerry Mee

All right, Jerry Mee, you got me. I laughed. I read on. I laughed some more. In this article, Mee creates a Legacy deck whose only goal is to make sure everyone wins because no one loses—because the games all end in a draw. I don't know Mr. Mee, but I envision someone cackling with glee every time they activate Helm of Obedience targeting someone enchanted by Wheel of Sun and Moon. And I dig it.

  1. Blue Moon Deck Guide | ChannelFireball | Paul Rietzl

A thoroughly thorough guide to Blue Moon in Modern for all of the fun-haters who just want to see people struggle to cast spells. You know who you are.

  1. Eldritch Moon: Set Symbol Mystery | Seibenlore

Wait, we forgot to reveal the Eldritch Moon set symbol?! What?! Shoot, I've gotta go talk to some people.

  1. Eternal Masters Instant-Speed Tricks | MTGGoldfish | Sameer Merchant

Doing the good work once again, Sameer Merchant gets you ready for Eternal Masters with a comprehensive review of every instant-speed trick you need to be aware of when drafting the set. Personally, I expect to be tricked by Humble more than any other spell on this list. My gaming hubris prevents me from playing around it.

  1. Did You Know Magic: Avacyn Restored | Gathering Magic

From a bunch of people at Gathering Magic comes the "Did You Know Magic" video series, today featuring Avacyn Restored. Gathering Magic has previously done Dark Ascension and Innistrad as well, giving us a full picture of Innistrad prior to all of the shadows.

What to Watch Tonight

  1. Vintage Super League

5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET. Tonight. Be there you'll miss some pretty great Vintage action spearheaded by about a million Hall of Fame pros and Vintage ringers?

Community Spotlight

  1. Tolarian Public Library

Most people know about Tolarian Community College, but how often do you visit the library? Tolarian Public Library is a more relaxed, casual outlet for The Professor, where he mostly archives gameplay videos from his Twitch channel. If you're a fan of the instructional content The Professor creates, then—well, these videos aren't really the same thing. But if you're a fan of The Professor's personality, then you can get an extra-large dose of it here—plus like a million games of him playing Merfolk.

Deck of the Day

  1. Modern Allies

The Top 8 of the Atlanta Modern Classic was basically a trip through Zendikar. Two Scapeshift decks took us on trips to Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle, Bant Eldrazi took us through the Eldrazi portions of Zendikar, Abzan Aristocrats brought along a Zulaport Cutthroat, and Merfolk spread some seas—plus, there are Merfolk on Zendikar, right?

But no deck was more Zendikarian (no clue if that's the correct way to write that) than Joe Ambrosio's Modern Allies deck, which is about eight spells and ten lands away from being a Zendikar-plus-Battle for Zendikar theme deck. Featuring 30 creatures, all of which are Allies (including honorary Ally Mirror Entity), the deck is a blazingly fast creature deck where basically every creature is a lord.

Held together by Æther Vial and Collected Company—the two pillars of Modern aggressive creature decks—the deck is brutally fast and single-minded. The power of Ally triggers means it can do quite a bit with a single spell, and tides can turn in the blink of an Eye of Ugin.
