Katie is a copy editor and occasional writer for DailyMTG, as well as a longtime Magic player with a fondness for giant green creatures. She especially loves Commander, despite having the patience of a fruit fly, and might glare at you if your turn takes too long.

The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on June 22, 2016. Today's Update is brought to you by the one coworker who I'm pretty sure has realized I'm not Blake. She keeps looking at me funny, and my costume is falling apart. I think the jig is up, guys.

Today's Must

  1. Against the Odds (Bonus): Worldgorger Combo Draft | MTGGoldfish | SaffronOlive

I'm pretty sure this is the apotheosis of drafting, and we should all be glad to witness it. Off the back of a first-pick Worldgorger Dragon and second-pick Animate Dead, SaffronOlive managed to assemble an infinite combo so powerful it was once banned in Eternal Masters Draft! Just watch it. It''s beautiful.

  1. How to Play a Magic Prerelease: Eldritch Moon Edition | Wizards of the Coast

Curious what a Prerelease is and how to do it? Or just wondering whether to be concerned about hordes of Zombies showing up? We've got you covered with this handy video! Yichao breaks down what to expect and how to maximize your fun.

Christine Sprankle, cosplay wizard extraordinaire, has made what looks like a pretty sweet Garruk helm—but it seems to have been claimed by a different sort of apex predator.

  1. Vintage Super League, Week 4

Have you been watching the Vintage Super League? Personally, I find it fun to watch what I know is a game of Magic, but one wherein I have little to no idea what is actually going on. I'm not even kidding! This is a whole different level of gameplay, and it involves cards and rules interactions that you aren't likely to see anywhere else.

  1. Legacy Lands | Constructed Resources | Marshall Sutcliffe and Eric Froehlich

Speaking of Eternal formats, Marshall and Eric talk Legacy, including the emergence of Miracles as a Legacy juggernaut and the surprising power of the Lands deck. They also touch on the current state of Standard and check in on World Magic Cup lineups.

  1. The Perfect Crime

A perceptive Imgur user has noticed something rather, well, alarming about the sequence of events depicted on these two cards. We commend this anonymous citizen for their astute observational skills, and we will be launching a full investigation into the young woman in question and the extent of her alleged misdeeds.

What People Are Talking About

  1. #HanweirChronicle concludes

For months, the Hanweir Chronicle has been issuing cryptic dispatches from the slowly warping Innistrad, giving fans and players around the world a firsthand glimpse into the madness overtaking the plane. At long last, the Chronicle has concluded, as the now-collective consciousness of the town's citizens has no need for such communications. If you've missed any parts of the Hanweir Chronicle, or just want to revisit your favorites, they're collected at

Deck of the Day

  1. Modern Dredge

This looks pretty different from a typical Legacy Dredge deck, but what really caught my eye is the full set of four Prized Amalgams. There's a card that I literally do not think I've seen played in a Limited environment once—but in this particular Constructed strategy, it's an obvious all-star. If you play a lot of Limited, like me, you can easily start to disregard cards like Prized Amalgam that don't do anything notable in their particular Limited environment, and it's always fun to see those cards find a home.

Congratulations to Magic Online user MTGMulligan for taking this list to a 5-0 finish in a Competitive Modern Constructed League. I'm looking forward to seeing what other sleeper cards from Shadows over Innistrad and Eldritch Moon will make their way into older formats!
