The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on August 29, 2016. Today's Update is brought to you by Announcement Day, coming soon!

Announcement Day is Coming!

  1. August 31, 2016

Last May, we held the first Magic Announcement Day, wherein we announced a slate of upcoming new expansions and ways to play. During that announcement, we teased that the very next Announcement Day would be coming in September. Well, we were off by a day. Announcement Day—which will include announcements for the next block as well as supplementary sets and products into 2017—will be this Wednesday, August 31. Look for it right here on DailyMTG.

What You Might Have Missed This Weekend

There probably isn't a player in the community who more people would be happy to see win a major tournament. Players all around the internet congratulated the Magic Online player known as sandydogmtg. If you think you've heard of Brandon Burton before, it's because you have. Burton has cerebral palsy, but, thanks to his adoptive mother, he's found an outlet in Magic. And now he's a Grand Prix Champion. Check out his winning deck below.

  1. Top 5 moments

Want a quick recap of the biggest moments from a triple–Grand Prix weekend? Check out these Top 5 moment articles from all three tournaments.

That's a Top 15 of hot, hot Modern action. And if they catch your attention, trip your trigger, or in any way entice you, just click the links at the top for the rest of the tournament coverage. You can also view video coverage of Grand Prix Indianapolis on the ChannelFireball Twitch profile page.

  1. Is it worth it to buy Conspiracy: Take the Crown—for Magic: The Gathering | Tolarian Community College | The Professor

The Professor grades Conspiracy: Take the Crown (spoiler: he didn't give it an "A") and asks one simple question—should you buy a box or sign up for a draft?

After Those, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. PAX West 2016—Day 0 | Windmill Slam | Denis Stranjak

Okay, so this video is mostly just nature and Stranjak getting used to his equipment, but it was worth pointing out that Stranjak will be creating a video diary while at PAX. He also asks for questions that you, his viewing audience, would like to ask of people at PAX. Also, he gets stung by a bee. His life is full of adventure.

  1. Conspiracy: Take the Crown Set Review: Red and Gold | Gathering Magic | Abe Sargent

Sargent has been reviewing Conspiracy color-by-color over the past few weekdays, and his review of the set with a casual player in mind (Sargent is basically the king of casual play) touches on all of the fun things you'll want to do to wreck your opponents with Conspiracy cards. And also conspiracy cards.

What People Are Talking About

#FrankKarstenMath. Here's another way to put it—Modern is diverse, yo.

  1. Planeswalker Profile: Dovin Baan

Along with the release of today's Magic Story, "Homesick," we also released a Planeswalker Profile of Dovin Baan, a new Planeswalker from Kaladesh. A very, very blue Planeswalker from Kaladesh.

Oh, is it...true?

That Magic: The Gathering—Puzzle Quest has an announcement coming? Yes, it does! Watch for details over the next few days.

Deck of the Day

  1. Grand Prix Indianapolis Champion Brandon Burton's Naya Burn

It's straightforward, it's brutal, and it's efficient. Brandon Burton took down Grand Prix Indianapolis with a turn-three kill that went Goblin Guide, two Lava Spikes, and three Lightning Bolts. And just like that, he won on turn three.

The deck is nearly mono-red, but it dips into green and white for Wild Nacatl, Boros Charm, and Atarka's Command, plus a number of sideboard cards. It's the most straightforward implication of the strategy—and, it seems, the best.
