Blake is the content manager for DailyMTG.com, making him the one you should email if you have thoughts on the website, good or less good (or not good). He's a longtime coverage reporter and hasn't turned down a game of Magic in any format ever.

The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on September 1, 2016. Today's Update is brought to you by PAX West, which is our everything for the next five beautiful days.

What does this mean for you, Daily Update reader? Well, for one, this is the last Update you'll read until next Tuesday. Basically, Friday's would only be a single entry that says "PAAAAAAAAAAAXXXXX. KAAAAAAALLLLLLAAAAAADESSSSSSHHHHHHH," and that's it. Seems like we can get that out of the way now. Then, on Monday, it's a holiday in the United States, so we'll be celebrating. Also look for some pinch-hitters on the Update next week, as I go on vacation at a crucial juncture in our preview schedule. As one does.

What to Watch This Weekend

  1. Kaladesh and the World Championship at PAX West

It's here! It's finally here. After a long Pro Tour season capped with Owen Turtenwald's stunning Player of the Year win, we're finally to the World Championship. And after a year of doom and gloom under the gaze (do they gaze?) of the Eldrazi, we're moving on to the bright, sunny world of possibility—Kaladesh!

We'll be at PAX West all weekend, where we've brought a bit of Kaladesh to this world. We'll be covering the World Championship, broadcasting panels, and holding an Inventors' Fair right on the street outside! You can find the whole schedule here, and you can watch everything on twitch.tv/magic!

  1. StarCityGames.com Richmond Open Weekend

If you need a break from the world of Kaladesh (What?! We just got here!), there are still denizens back on Tarkir, Zendikar, and Innistrad during the Richmond Open Weekend, where Standard is the main name of the game. Coverage starts Saturday at 10 a.m. ET/7 a.m. PT on twitch.tv/scglive.

Today's Must

  1. AJ's 2016 Worlds Power Rankings—Avant Card Episode 3 | AJ Sacher

AJ Sacher ranks the 24 players at the World Championship, his "favorite tournament of the year." Us too, AJ, us too.

After Those, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. Whoops, It's 2016 and I Just Got Obsessed With Magic: The Gathering | Wired | Jake Muncy

Wired writer Jake Muncy discovered Magic Online. He was never seen again. Read for your daily dose of outside-the-community reminders that this game is awesome.

  1. Final Standard Power Rankings | ChannelFireball

It's about time for rotation—so what cards were the best heading into the final week of the format? You get exactly one guess as to what's No. 1.

  1. Draft Leagues and MTGO | Limited Resources | Marshall Sutcliffe and Luis Scott-Vargas

Do any regular listeners of Limited Resources think Marshall would be anything less than incredibly excited for Draft Leagues? Inside, they discuss all the highlights and issues out there for Draft Leagues.

  1. Conspiracy: Take the Crown eBook

Okay, I know I said this was going up last week, but I jumped the gun a little bit. The eBook itself was up, but we had a technical issue with getting the link on the actual website. It's there now. I swear. So read up before we move on to Kaladesh completely.

What People Are Talking About

Be jealous. This is the pinnacle of Magic competition. Even if you're not a tournament player, not a Spike, or only play five-player, attack left, singleton no-banned list Modern, you can certainly appreciate the best players in the world competing against one another for the title of World Champion.

Just wait till you see the card...

Deck of the Day

  1. Bant Company

Here's the open question for this weekend: how much Bant Company will be at the World Championships? Many of these players picked something else for the last Pro Tour, but since then tournaments have gravitated back to the four-mana creature-fetching instant.

The list below is a 5-0 Competitive Standard League list from MUNDISV, and is relatively stock. I would fully expect the best to innovate some. Or maybe this is as good as it gets.

Will the best of the best beat them or join them? Tune in today to find out.
