Hi, everybody! Not-Blake Rasmussen here, and I've got a slew of magical things from around the Internet to scratch that Magic itch, including a number of sweet new preview cards from Kaladesh!
We have a couple of choice previews on our own site to check out, but there are many more out in the wild, just waiting to be discovered. Just make sure you check out the tall grass.
- We Present a New, Exclusive Magic Card | IGN Spain | Álvaro Moral
Ah, this card just makes me so...nostalgic. If you're a fan of discarding cards for fun and profit, you'll definitely want to check out this Spanish preview! If you don't speak Spanish, learn it! Or you can just check out the Reddit thread.
- Exclusive Kaladesh Preview: Aether Hub! | StarCityGames.com | Patrick Chapin
As energetic as Patrick Chapin tends to be, I don't know that there are too many better cards for him to preview. Because sometimes, all it takes to fix your mana is a little gusto.
- Limited Resources 353—Mike Turian Interview and Exclusive Kaladesh Preview Cards | Limited Resources | Marshall Sutcliffe and Luis Scott-Vargas
The potato heads to LR! Hear a bunch of cool inside stories from one of the nicest, coolest human beings at Wizards (I promise he doesn't sit like ten feet away from me and isn't standing over me while I type this seriously Mike go away I have other things to do…okay, he's gone). Turian praise aside, Marshall and LSV have a slew of new Kaladesh cards that they take a look at, so you should totally go and listen.
More Cool Things from around the Internet
While Kaladesh previews may be in full swing, there's plenty more going on in the world of Magic. Let's take a quick tour, shall we?
- GP Louisville Team Power Rankings | ChannelFireball | Matt Sperling
Sperling is usually sick of it, but not in today's article. He's looking ahead to this weekend's Team Grand Prix in Louisville. Given the fact that he's got a couple of team trophies on his mantle, he certainly has my attention. For fans of Magic across the Pacific, Grand Prix Kyoto's taking place, too!
- PAXsplosion | Magic the Amateuring | Maria Bartholdi and Meghan Wolff
Maria and Meghan went to PAX West! While they were there, Brian Braun-Duin became the World Champion, a whole slew of new cards were previewed, we revealed the next block, and a bunch of other stuff. You should go take a listen. It'll be good for your earholes.
Top 25 Shakeup...ish
- Welcoming a new Champion to the ranks
With the 2016 Magic World Championship in the books, there's been a reasonable amount of mobility amidst the pack of the Top 25 player rankings. Owen Turtenwald still maintains his vice grip on the top slot, as have the rest of the Top 6 players. After winning the whole shebang, Brian Braun-Duin is welcomed into the Top 25 with open arms. The champ sits pretty at No. 21. Other big movers are Mike Sigrist and Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa, who both cracked the Top 10, and King Rook himself, Oliver Tiu, who now sits firmly at No. 14. Not bad for his rookie season!
|10||Paulo Vitor Damo Da Rosa||63.46||+3||13|
Dropped from rankings: Jon Finkel, Pascal Maynard, Ivan Floch, and Oliver Polak-Rottmann
Deck of the Day
Here's a little love for all of you Vintage fans out there! Adam turned in a second-place finish in the August Magic Online Power Nine challenge with this sweet number.
Now Dredge is basically the enemy of...well pretty much everyone. It's powerful, it's blisteringly fast, and it is incredibly hard to deal with if you don't devote a number of sideboard slots specifically devoted to the reanimating menace. Unfortunately for many Dredge players, that's exactly what happens in Vintage, and those sideboard slots are veeeeery good against it.
Still, despite this hate, the deck is capable of some really powerful stuff. If you seriously need more about it, go check out Shuhei Nakamura playing Pitch Dredge in the finals of this most recent season of VSL.
For the uninitiated, Dredge takes advantage of cards with the dredge mechanic, such as Golgari Grave-Troll, to fill the graveyard up with cards. It can then use cards like Ichorid, Narcomoeba, and Prized Amalgam to make an army out of nowhere. Prefer a more traditional necromantic route? Use Bridge from Below to make a Zombie army and reinforce it with a Flame-Kin Zealot that has been brought back by Dread Return. Or, if you just want to kill people in one shot (and do it around all of the graveyard hate), you can just kill them with Marit Lage thanks to Dark Depths and Thespian's Stage.
I...I kinda want to go sleeve this up now...
