Blake is the content manager for, making him the one you should email if you have thoughts on the website, good or less good (or not good). He's a longtime coverage reporter and hasn't turned down a game of Magic in any format ever.

The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on September 13, 2016. Today's Update is brought to you by Dovin Baan. Between him and Cloudblazer, I'm going to be gaining 2 life while drawing cards a lot in the new Standard.

Today's Previews

For the previews not already found on DailyMTG, look no further than this section here. Well, click on the links below, but, no further than that. After that, you're good for the day.

  1. Authority of the Consuls | Weibo (account required)

This cheap enchantment, and far-too-late Splinter Twin hoser, is an interesting enchantment meant to slow down the opponent. Find out what it does (if you don't have an Weibo account and/or don't speak Chinese) on this Reddit thread.

  1. Kaladesh Previews | Snack Time with Mike and Ant | Mike Linnemann and Ant Tessitore

Pretty art and fantastic flavor text. Seems right up their alley.

  1. More to come

We've got a few more previews still coming today. If you have a Wizards Account that is set up to receive emails, then you should receive three very Gremlin-y preview cards today. Beyond that, The Command Zone is scheduled to preview a card (watch their Twitter), as is Mark Rosewater.

After All of That, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. HUGE MTG NEWS - Masterpiece Series: Kaladesh Inventions – Crazy NEW Spoilers! | The Mana Source | Wedge

This is your reminder that Wedge is doing his frantic prerelease publishing schedule thing. You can find all of his Kaladesh preview videos in this playlist, or just watch the latest below.

  1. Energizing Aetherworks Marvel | ChannelFireball | Frank Karsten

It's a Frank Karsten math article. Of course I suggest you read it. This one takes on Aetherworks Marvel, a Standard-legal way to actually cast a turn 4 Emrakul, the Promised End, Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger, or even the overpowered Cloudblazer. Yeah, that Cloudblazer. Feel the power.

  1. Booster Draft League Clinic | TCGPlayer | Craig Wescoe

If you're new to drafting a million times a week thanks to Draft Leagues on Magic Online, Wescoe has 8 tips to get you going. Video included. Because we live in the future, yo.

  1. The Fire of Kaladesh | StarCityGames | Chris VanMeter

This article is basically a love song to Chandra, Torch of Defiance. Though I'm pretty sure Chandra wouldn't listen to love songs. Maybe metal? I wonder how much time I'd lose if I went down to the creative team and asked them what kind of music each Planeswalker would listen to…

Community Spotlight

  1. Hate Drafting & Magic: The Gathering // Atomic Game Theory Episode 4 | Atomic Game Theory | Richard Malena

Speaking of math, just how much do you like math? I mean, like, really like math? Are you Frank Karsten? With Magic Online leagues in full-swing, hate drafting is a hot topic of conversation, and Malena—a math and science teacher—breaks down the mathiest math on hate drafting I've ever seen. It's thorough, interesting, and should have far more views.

What People Are Talking About

Oh yes, people are still talking about how gorgeous the Kaladesh Inventions are. Here, Noah Bradley talks about his "perfect assignment," Cloudstone Curio. My favorite interaction of all of yesterday was when Bradley was talking about this on Twitter. He said, "They asked me to paint my two favorite things in the world as one thing. I was pretty happy about that." When someone inevitably made a snarky response (because Reddit), he replied:

"Cloud. Stone. This is not hard."

Deck of the Day

  1. Jund Delirium

Continuing with this week's theme of decks that survive rotation relatively intact. Today's deck is Jund Delirium from Bone55, who finished in 3rd place at last weekend's Magic Online Championship Series tournament. The deck is, at its core, a Traverse the Ulvenwald Delirium deck that seeks to top things off with Emrakul, the Promised End and Distended Mindbender while holding firm with a ton of removal.

The deck does lose a few important cards. Nissa, Vastwood Seer is pretty perfect for the deck's value engine. The deck can function without it—it just doesn't want to. Languish is more or less irreplaceable, but with only two copies main and one in the side, the deck be able to make due with more spot removal, depending on how the metagame shapes up. Finally, Fiery Impulse can easily be replaced by Galvanic Bombardment. The rest of the main deck stays untouched.

Plus, you'll get some new toys. Chandra, Torch of Defiance is on the top of every red mage's list, and will certainly get a look.
