Blake is the content manager for, making him the one you should email if you have thoughts on the website, good or less good (or not good). He's a longtime coverage reporter and hasn't turned down a game of Magic in any format ever.

The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on October 3, 2016. Today's Update has been smuggled to you by a particular copter...

What You Might Have Missed This Weekend

  1. Indianapolis Open Weekend

We got our first look at new Standard with the traditional aggro-palooza as aggressive decks, particularly Smuggler's Copter, lined the Top 8 nearly up and down. The one exception to the aggro rule is our Deck of the Day. Check out the Top 64 decklists to see the first take on new Standard.

  1. Modern Studies 301: An Introduction to Naya Burn for Magic: The Gathering | Tolarian Community College | The Professor

Some people just want to watch the world burn—and now there's a video for those players!

  1. Kaladesh Prerelease Field Recordings | The Mana Pool | Chewie and the Dorks

This one is kind of interesting. The podcast is a broadcast from the field during the Kaladesh Prerelease, getting everyone's on-the-spot reactions to the set. If you want to hear squees of excitement and snap judgments about the relative strength of a pool, this might be an interesting podcast for you.

Today's Must

  1. Do Week One Results Actually Matter? | MTGGoldfish | SaffronOlive

An examination of how often week one results got it correct—and how often they whiffed completely.

  1. Crewing and Cruising to Victory | MTGMintCard | Martin Dang

With two Limited Grand Prix coming this weekend (Atlanta and London), Pro Tour Champion Martin Dang has some tips and advice for playing Kaladesh Sealed.

If you want my advice, it's simple—Step one: Open Panharmonicon. Step two: Open Cloudblazer. Step three: Find a way to make all of your rounds untimed.

  1. Commanding Your Cube Kaladesh Style | Gathering Magic | Abe Sargent

Sargent reveals which Kaladesh cards make his Commander Cube cut. And, yes, Cloudblazer's presence did give him a leg up today. Let that be a lesson to you, kids, if you want your content to show up on, just toss in a good word or two for Cloudblazer.

  1. GP London 2016 Announcement! | Windmill Slam | Denis Stranjak and Friends (and not so much friends anymore)

Windmill Slam its taking its peculiar act to Grand Prix London this weekend, and Stranjak and a few of his closest friends acquaintances are here to announce what they'll be doing at the Grand Prix.

What People Are Talking About

Everyone else keeps adding words of explanation to their Tweets, but Saito seems to have it right—not much more needs to be said after Smuggler's Copter dominated SCG Indy. It's a Copter world and we're all just playing in it.

  1. Servo Facts | Tumblr

Yes, if getting Servo Facts on Twitter wasn't enough, Tumblr has gotten in on the game, promising a new Servo Fact every day.

Unsubscribe Servo Facts.

Deck of the Day

  1. Grixis Emerge

Zach Voss took this hybrid emerge/Zombie strategy all the way to second place at the Open this past weekend. The deck heavily utilizes the graveyard with Prized Amalgam, Haunted Dead, Scrapheap Scrounger, and even Perpetual Timepiece, while also going big with Kozilek's Return and Elder Deep-Fiend. Smuggler's Copter, of course, makes its presence felt as well.

Given the strong initial performance of this deck and the power of the Elder Deep-Fiend/Sanctum of Ugin/Kozilek's Return engine and the Prized Amalgam recursion package, I would expect this deck to stick around as a fixture of the metagame for some time.
