By Nicholas Wolfram

Nicholas Wolfram fell promptly in love with tabletop and video games when he was only two years old, and he has been writing about them since he figured out how words worked. Now he puts together words about Magic, which he started playing way back in 2000.

The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on October 10, 2016. Blake is making his way to sunny Honolulu ahead of Pro Tour Kaladesh, so I'll be continuing this glorious tradition in his stead. Today's Update is brought to you by a thrilling final showdown at Grand Prix Atlanta!

Today's Must

  1. GP Atlanta came to a tense close with Carlos Romão taking the top spot this weekend

Using big energy in his Abzan deck, Romão kept tight control of the board throughout his matches and hit with a cadre of big creatures to take out the competition and secure the title of 2016 Grand Prix Atlanta Champion. Find out more here and through the Deck of the Day below!

After That, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. Legacy Metagame Analysis | ChannelFireball | Bob Huang

It's been almost a year and a half since Bob's last Legacy metagame analysis, and he has a lot to talk about. Find out just how much the Eldrazi explosion has affected Magic's most inclusive format.

  1. Deck Overview—Standard Azorius Flash | Quiet Speculation | Ryan Overturf

I love flash. Disrupting your opponents' plans with a cleverly concealed card is one of the most universal pleasures in Magic, and it somehow just feels better to do it with something meatier than an instant. Ryan takes us through his build of a Standard White-Blue Flash deck that crescendos to the colossal drop of a Torrential Gearhulk. And then hopefully a few more.

  1. Drafting Blue-Black Control in Kaladesh | TCG Player | Seth Manfield

Seth walks through a Kaladesh draft and breaks down the thought processes that ultimately led to him playing a Blue-Black Control deck he could be proud of.

  1. Mean Machines | The Girlfriend Bracket | Erin Campbell, Hallie Santo, Katie Neal, and Kriz Schultz

Listen as Erin, Hallie, Katie, and Kriz discuss the events of last week, including some information and insight on Sealed Preliminary Pro Tour Qualifiers from multiple perspectives.

  1. Back to the Drawing Board After Rotation | MTGMintCard | Simon Nielson

Simon brings some new insight to the table on how we can respond to some of the trends that have emerged now that Kaladesh has had a little bit of time to permeate the Standard metagame.

  1. More Modern Combos Exposed | | Jennifer Long

Jennifer walks us through some combo decks we're likely to see in Modern these days and, more importantly, offers some sage advice on how we can break the combos and take them down.

What People Are Talking About

Could this finally be Chris's moment?! Check out the Reddit thread to join in the discussion as the Meddling Mage takes the next step in his quest for the Hall of Fame.

Deck of the Day

  1. Abzan Kaladesh Draft

While predominantly green, Carlos Romão's deck was the only three-color deck to break the Top 8 at GP Atlanta, and it was powerful enough to carry him to the title of Champion. Using a tremendous amount of energy to fuel big creatures like Bristling Hydra along with the versatile board controller Deadlock Trap, Romão overpowered the competition.
