The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on November 7, 2016. Today's Update is brought to you by new content creators. Here's to you.

What You Might Have Missed This Weekend

  1. Grand Prix Dallas/Fort Worth Top Moments | Wizards of the Coast | Corbin Hosler and Marc Calderaro

Texas did it big, as more than 2,000 players assembled in Dallas/Fort Worth to battle Modern, and the results were, well, fun. A Skred Red deck winning the whole thing, Cryptic Command making a comeback, old favorites making comebacks, and a World Champion and Grand Prix Master mastering another Grand Prix.

  1. StarCityGames.com Baltimore Open

A Legacy Tournament won by Sultai, a Standard tournament won by Boros (and Reid Duke!), and a Modern Tournament won by a (mostly) Naya deck—the Baltimore Open featured a lot of diversity both in the main event (Legacy) and the Modern and Standard Opens held at the same time. Check out all of the coverage here.

  1. The Cheating Isn't the Only Problem | ChannelFireball | Brian DeMars

This one caused a bit of a discussion over the weekend, as players weighed so called "witch hunts" for on-camera mistakes/cheating against keeping the game clean and fair for all. This isn't the first time this topic has come up—and I doubt it will be the last.

After Those, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. TCGPlayer State Champs Lists

Over the past weekend, TCGPlayer held their States competitions, and the result was a ton of decklists. Use the search above to view them all.

  1. Opening a Dialogue on Ethics | Gathering Magic | Andrew Jessup

Jessup offers a few scenarios and explores their ethical implications in Magic.

  1. Adapting to Your Commander Playgroup | StarCityGames.com | Erik Tiernan

There's going to be a lot more interest in Commander playgroups starting this Friday (when Commander (2016 Edition) releases, you know), so learn how to adapt to what your playgroup is doing—and send it right back their way.

Community Spotlight

  1. New/Unknown Content Creator Mega Compilation Thread

I can't read everything. I'm pretty sure no one can. So I really enjoy when I stumble upon something new and get to share it with you all. Then, over the weekend, this Reddit thread happened and added a ton of new content creators to my "to do" list, and they should be added to yours as well. If you're looking for new Magic content, this thread is a great place to start. I haven't explored all of these yet, so I can't recommend them all, but I can recommend you check them out for yourself if you're interested in even more content.

What People Are Talking About

  1. Digging Up Amonkhet | Sarpadian Empires Vol. VIII | Andrew Weisel

Last week we and Viz Media announced the upcoming art book featuring Amonkhet, and Weisel has wasted no time dissecting both the cover art and the description of the book. How much did he uncover? Click that little link thingy above.

  1. Luis Scott-Vargas does not like Lantern Control

Glad to see the Twitch clips feature being put to good use, but the Reddit thread showing the (funny) clip turned into a discussion on Lantern's place in Modern, and the reactions were surprisingly positive in favor of the lock deck. Not uniformly so, but surprisingly so. (Also, watch the clip. It's funny.)

Deck of the Day

  1. Skred Red—Grand Prix Dallas/Fort Worth Champion

I don't think anyone saw this coming. Wait, scratch that. I know no one saw this coming. I'm not even sure the deck's pilot Kevin Mackie saw this coming. Skred Red is a mono-red deck full of Snow-Covered Mountains. Skred, the card itself, might just be the best removal spell in the format, and Blood Moon might just be the best disruptive spell in the format. Throw in a few powerful planeswalkers, some tough-to-handle threats, and a pilot who knows the deck and, boom, you have a Grand Prix Champion.

Congratulations, Kevin Mackie!
