The February 27, 2017 Update

By Blake Rasmussen

Blake is the content manager for, making him the one you should email if you have thoughts on the website, good or less good (or not good). He's a longtime coverage reporter and hasn't turned down a game of Magic in any format ever.

The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on February 27, 2017. Today's Update is brought to you by Damnation. We did it. We finally did it. You know it's quite the day when reprinting the Zendikar fetch lands is the second coolest reprint.

Today's Previews Shown and Yet to Come

  1. Damnation and Fetch Lands | Wizards of the Coast

I don't usually list our own articles here, especially since you can just click on them from the same page you probably found this article, but given the community desire for these cards to be reprinted, it's hard not to include them.

Get Ready To Dual | Mark Rosewater (fetch lands)
Took Us Long Enough | Adam Prosak (Damnation)

  1. Liliana Reacts! Not on Modern Masters box? (Magic The Gathering MTG MM3 Spoiler / Preview Card) | Tolarian Community College

Just so we're clear, neither The Professor nor Liliana have full knowledge of the set. That said, this is pretty funny.

  1. Modern Masters 2017 Edition Preview! |

It's much easier to show off foreign previews on an English page when they're reprints. This one is pretty flashy.

  1. First Strike #15 |

Tune in tonight at 9 p.m. PT to see the ManaDeprived official preview card! That's all I'm going to say about that. It's their time to shine.

  1. Twitter previews coming from @Wizards_Magic and @TrickMTG

Watch these two Twitter accounts today as I have good word that the people sitting a few desks over from me will do exactly what I asked them to do and preview some cards for you. Most likely.

  1. Spanish Facebook Page

The rain in Spain may fall mainly on the plain, but the preview card will be falling mainly on the Facebook page some time today.

After That, Read, Watch, or Listen to This

  1. Who's the best Aether Revolt Commander? Sram, Kari Zev, Rishkar, Yahenni Gameplay l Game Knights #4 | Jimmy Wong and Josh Lee Kwai

Game Knights, for you Commander aficionados out there, is awesome. Slickly produced; full of fun Commander action; and, for this episode, featuring the latest Commanders to join the realm of the 99+1. Jimmy and Josh are joined by Wesley Ruttle and Vinny Truong to see which mono-colored Aether Revolt legend reigns supreme.

What People Are Talking About

There was a significant discussion overnight about the amount of information out there that leads to formats being essentially "solved" faster. I know this is something R&D talks about internally as well, so it's certainly on our radars.

It looks even better if you check out the larger image on Cascade Games' Facebook post.

Deck of the Day

  1. Samuel Vuillot's Mardu Ballista

Add possibly the best card in the format to possibly the best deck in the format, and the result is a Grand Prix victory for Samuel Vuillot, who, like a lot of players, found a way to put Walking Ballista into Mardu Vehicles. Vuillot, however, was the last player standing at Grand Prix Utrecht.

But there was much more to the Grand Prix than robots driving air ships—and you can read all about it on the coverage page, check out the Top Moments from Frank Karsten, and/or check out our Utrecht video coverage on our Twitch archive page.
