The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on March 3, 2017. Today's Update is brought to you by the full Modern Masters 2017 Edition Card Image Gallery. Stare at it in all of its splendor.

What to Watch This Weekend

  1. Magic Online Championship | Friday-Sunday |

This is happening right now! Sixteen players who earned their way to an in-person, online tournament at Wizards headquarters in Renton, Washington. And some of the best players in the world will be battling it out—Brian Braun-Duin, Lukas Blohon, Márcio Carvalho, Lee Shi Tian, Owen Turtenwald, Jacob Wilson, Josh Utter-Leyton, and more will be there.

After Those, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. What Makes Ad Nauseam a Fantastic Choice | Top Level Podcast | Mike Flores and Patrick Chapin

All hyped up for Modern right now? Well, Ad Nauseam isn't in Modern Masters 2017, but it might be a key player in the recent shifts in the Modern metagame. Flores and Chapin talk about not only Ad Nauseam, but a bit of everything Modern. Still waiting for that Cruel Control primer, though.

  1. Updating Temur Tower After Utrecht | ChannelFireball | Ondřej Stráský

Temur Tower has earned its spot at the big kids' table in Standard, thanks in part to Ondřej Stráský's performance at Grand Prix Utrecht. Here he explains his list and offers updates for the future—as you do in this kind of article.

  1. Next Leveling in Standard | MTGMintCard | Lee Shi Tian

People talk about "Next Level" all the time (thanks, Patrick Chapin), but it can be something of a nebulous concept. "Oh, I next leveled them," is heard far too often to actually be true—we'd be on like, the millionth level by now or so. So Lee Shi Tian is here to explain what next leveling means, using the current Standard metagame as an example.

  1. Rants and Decks | Gathering Magic | Ali Aintrazi

Ali thinks people aren't trying enough to make different decks in Standard work—including a rant about rants. Never say Ali isn't capable of going deep.

  1. Feverish Expertise | | Matt Higgs

Matt Higgs has a fever, and the only cure for that fever is—Baral's Expertise? Sure, why not.

  1. Happy 1-Year Anniversary Voice of All

Voice of All, the podcast that does audio performances of Magic Story, is celebrating one year of reading the stories to you. They celebrated by re-running their first podcast—and one of our most popular stories—Under the Silver Moon.

What People Are Talking About

Excited Randy is best Randy, and he's going to be working coverage for the Magic Online Championship this weekend. And it's literally playing right now, so you've got to imagine he's even more excited than he was when he Tweeted this.

Now that the full Card Image Gallery is out, people are poring over it for rarity shifts, like Obzedat, Ghost Council going from mythic rare to merely a rare. People are noting a bunch of them, but there seems to be a good bit of excitement about Thunderous Wrath being downshifted to common (and thus legal for Pauper).

Deck of the Day

  1. Matthew Rogers' Abzan

Why Abzan today? Because so much of this deck can be found in Modern Masters 2017 Edition. Liliana of the Veil? Check. Tarmogoyf? Yup. Scavenging Ooze? That's there too. Inquisition of Kozilek, Lingering Souls, Path to Exile, and Abrupt Decay? Yes, definitely, si, yah. Marsh Flats and Verdant Catacombs are there, too. Heck, even the Stony Silences in the sideboard can be found in packs starting March 17.

This particular list belongs to Matthew Rogers, who finished 15th at Grand Prix Brisbane a few weeks back—not a bad place to start.
