The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on March 10, 2017. Today's Update is brought to you by So. Much. Magic. Streaming.

What to Watch This Weekend

  1. Grand Prix Barcelona and New Jersey | | Saturday and Sunday starting at 3:30 a.m. ET/12:30 a.m. PT

Do you want to watch a lot of Magic? Like, a lot a lot? Because we're streaming both Grand Prix Barcelona and New Jersey, plus you've also got the Open (which you can see the details of below). Here's how it'll work for the Grand Prix: Barcelona will start streaming and will go till it's done with Day One, then New Jersey will pick up wherever it is at that time. Then the whole thing will start over for Day Two. That's a ton of Magic.

  1. Dallas Open Weekend | | Saturday and Sunday starting at 11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT

Modern takes to Dallas this weekend for the SCG Open. Will Death's Shadow keep casting its, um, shadow over the top tables? Or will new challengers arise?

After Those, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. Should Jace Be Modern-Legal? | | Shaheen Soorani

There have been a number of articles on the upcoming banned and restricted announcement (coming Monday), with opinions varying all over the place. Really, I thought about including a few, but there's one specific question most of these articles seem to touch on, even if they don't agree—should Jace, the Mind Sculptor be un-banned in Modern?

Shaheen Soorani has his take on it (I'll give you one guess where he comes down), but he also lays out the Modern landscape, the arguments against the move, and where and how Jace could fit in.

  1. Unlicensed Disintegration and Blue-Red Improvise | Top Level Podcast | Mike Flores and Patrick Chapin

Patrick thinks we should ban—Unlicensed Disintegration? Huh. Guess you'll need to listen to find out why. Also check out the Blue-Red Improvise deck that Chapin was this close to playing at Pro Tour Aether Revolt. You can't see how far I'm gesturing when I write this, but it's pretty darn close.

  1. Ancestral Recall #2—Who's the Beatdown? | Mana Deprived | Roman Fusco and Mike Flores

All Mike Flores all the time! The "Who's the Beatdown" author and Fusco discuss, um, "Who's the Beatdown." Seems apt.

  1. The Entire Kaladesh/Aether Revolt Story/Lore Summary for Magic: The Gathering: Part 2! | The Mana Source | Wedge

As we round the final corners to Amonkhet (stories pick back up on March 29), now's a good time to catch up on the Kaladesh/Aether Revolt story. Wedge walks you through all the happenings, with this video picking up where Kaladesh left off.

  1. As the Standard World Turns | Gathering Magic | Ben Friedman

Standard is in a constant churn right now, as decks ebb and flow to adapt to the latest flow or ebb. Friedman runs through some of those changes with an eye to figuring out what might be next.

Deck of the Day

  1. Joe McMahan's Blue-Red Zombies

This deck has so many names. Blue-Red Emerge (thanks to Elder Deep-Fiend), Blue-Red Visions (thanks to Fevered Visions) or "That deck that Raphaël Lévy keeps playing." Whatever you call it, the deck is terminally cool.

This is the only deck in Standard looking to actively discard all the things. Advanced Stitchwing, Stitchwing Skaab, Lightning Axe, Cathartic Reunion, and Tormenting Voice all require you to discard at some point. They key is, the deck has a lot of cards that don't mind being discarded—Kozilek's Return, Prized Amalgam, and Fiery Temper are first among them, and when they're in the graveyard, they give you really good control over what the board looks like at any given time.

The key, however, is Fevered Visions, which is part win condition, part fuel for all this discard. It keeps your hand full, even with a graveyard full of Stitchwings, and it keeps your opponent under pressure.
