Blake is the content manager for, making him the one you should email if you have thoughts on the website, good or less good (or not good). He's a longtime coverage reporter and hasn't turned down a game of Magic in any format ever.

The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on March 16, 2017. Today's Update is brought to you by Draft tips for Modern Masters 2017 Edition. So many Draft tips.

Today's Must

  1. Modern Masters 2017 Instant-Speed Tricks | MTGGoldfish | Sameer Merchant

With Modern Masters 2017 Edition releasing tomorrow, there will be drafts happening. Oh, so many drafts. If you're going to draft, be sure to make the most of it with this handy reference to all the instant-speed tricks in the format, complete with a handy PDF!

After That, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. Limited Review: Modern Masters 2017 | PureMTGO | Vincent Borchardt

While you're perusing spreadsheets and crunching the numbers to mathematically prepare yourself for Modern Masters 2017 Edition, why not take a more holistic view? Borchard has an overview of the format that covers everything a little bit.

  1. Draft Digest: Shroud Out Loud | | Ryan Saxe

Saxe, on the other hand, covers everything about a little bit of Modern Masters 2017 Edition, going deep on Simic (green-blue) in the set. Coiling Oracle fans of the world, unite!

  1. Modern Masters 2017 Design with Sam Stoddard | Commanderin' | Phil DeLuca, Sean Whatson, and Nate Burgess

Let's stick with Modern Masters a little bit longer and listen to Sam Stoddard talk about the set's design with the Commanderin' crew. Strong episode, but it needs more songs in my honor.

  1. STACK EM UP—MTG Gameshow Windmillionaire | Windmill Slam

It's been a bit since we've had the Windmillionaire game show in its non–special edition form, so revel in the absurdity and in Denis's flavor text prowess. Which is also absurd.

  1. Against the Odds: Zur-an (Modern) | MTG Goldfish | SaffronOlive

What happens when you combine Zur the Enchanter with Doran, the Siege Tower? Do they argue about why one of them has a comma before their title and the other doesn't? Do they trade skincare tips? Or do they just crush other decks up and down the Modern spectrum? Watch to find out.

  1. A Narrow Metagame Isn't All That Bad | MTG Mint Card | Chapman Sim

Sim looks on the bright side of a narrow metagame with just a few dominant decks by exploring the possibilities it opens up, the ease with which it can be attacked, and the ability to master your deck. Happy working song not included.

  1. Is Wizards of the Coast Ready to Go Back to Dominaria? | Gathering Magic | Sam Keeper

Huh, this is the second Dominaria-focused piece of content in as many days. I'm starting to think maybe it's the fans who are ready to go back to Dominaria. What do you think? Is that something you would like?

  1. A Tradition Like No Other | Hipsters of the Coast | Brendan McNamara

McNamara looks to past Masters sets for guidance on the best way to approach drafting Modern Masters 2017 Edition (out tomorrow! Eeeeeeee!). As in other Modern Masters sets, I suggest you take that Tamogoyf.

What People Are Talking About

Kai may still be streaming or he may be done by the time you read this, but the fact that he is streaming lately should perk your ears up just a bit.

Deck of the Day

  1. Aetherworks Temur Tower

Temur Tower—an energy-based Dynavolt Tower deck—has gained some popularity over the past few weeks as people uncovered its power. Likewise, people are rediscovering Aetherworks Marvel as players look for ways to break through the Copy Cat/Mardu Vehicles paradigm.

Why not both?

Diego_Mediano recently went 5-0 in a Magic Online Competitive Standard League with a deck that utilizes about 60% of a Temur Tower deck and combines it with part of an Aetherworks Marvel deck, effectively dropping counterspells for the Aetherworks Marvel package.

This wasn't a fluke. How do I know? Because SEN_ also went 5-0 with the exact same decklist at about the same time.

And this is what Standard is right now—evolution. People finding new ways to upgrade or shift existing strategies to find an edge. And, sometimes, smashing two sweet decks together.
