Blake is the content manager for, making him the one you should email if you have thoughts on the website, good or less good (or not good). He's a longtime coverage reporter and hasn't turned down a game of Magic in any format ever.

The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on March 27, 2017. Today's Update is brought to you by Amonkhet Inovocations!

What You Might Have Missed This Weekend

  1. Top 5 Moments of Grand Prix Orlando | Corbin Hosler

Didn't have time this weekend to keep up with Grand Prix Orlando? Corbin has you covered. Though the item you're looking for is "Pikula makes a long-awaited return."

  1. Battle to Bolas—Lore Lesson | Aether Hub | Seiben

Just before we enter Amonkhet (the first Magic Story is Wednesday!), Seiben takes us through the end of the Aether Revolt story and reminds us all just how dangerous Nicol Bolas is.

  1. Behind the Scenes of Grand Prix Porto Alegre | ChannelFireball | Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa

It's not often we get this kind of perspective on coverage—someone who hasn't normally done coverage, doing coverage, and bringing you behind the scenes. PVDDR's perspective is a fun one, as are his insights on the format and the tournament.

What's Coming Tomorrow

  1. Team and Streamer Masterpiece Preview Extrabonanza!

You're going to start seeing some tweets or other posts that look a lot like this:

Here's what's happening. Tomorrow, starting around 3 p.m. PT/6 p.m. ET, teams from the Magic Pro Tour Team Series as well as some streamers will be previewing Amonkhet Masterpieces. Like Kaladesh Masterpieces were called Inventions, these are called Invocations. You'll see previews from the following:

Then we'll drop the full list of Amonkhet Invocations Wednesday morning at 8 a.m. PT/11 a.m. ET on DailyMTG, including some that weren't previewed, but not including cards that are also in the main set of Amonkhet (like the Gearhulks were in Kaladesh).

What People Are Talking About

  1. Sad News—Mike Davis passes

Mike Davis, the man who convinced Richard Garfield to meet up with Wizards of the Coast and a former Vice President of R&D, died this past weekend. Mark Rosewater wrote a touching tribute on his blog.

That's right, cycling is back! That and a whole bunch of other stuff were part of some Amonkhet news we dropped this morning.

After Those, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. Saheeli Oath in Vintage | ChannelFireball | Andrea Mengucci

I don't normally cover Vintage here, but when a writer takes a Standard-legal card, combines it with a Modern-legal card and, voila, comes up with a Vintage deck? Sure, it's using a shell that has existed for years, but this more modern (and Modern) twist on the archetype is fun to look at.

  1. The Crackdown Smackdown | | Matt Higgs

Why play Saheeli Rai and Felidar Guardian when you can play another Standard-legal two-card combo that goes just as big?

Deck of the Day

  1. Jund Midrange

When in doubt, Jund 'em out.

James Rector did just that at a Invitational Qualifier where he finished 6th with a grindy Jund deck in Standard that was reminiscent of things we've seen in the not-too-distant past. Goblin Dark-Dwellers does a lot of the heavy lifting in this deck, flashing back Unlicensed Disintegration, To the Slaughter, Fatal Push, or the underrated Pulse of Murasa.

You haven't lived until you've Pulse of Murasa-ed back a Goblin Dark-Dwellers which then gets to Pulse of Murasa-ed again. It's a cascade of card advantage and life that's hard to come back from.
