The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on May 22, 2017. Today's Update is brought to you by Fatal Push, Renegade Rallier, and Reverse Engineer.

What You Might Have Missed This Weekend

  1. Top Stories of Grand Prix Montreal | Meghan Wolff

Kevin Jones wins, the return of control, and Canadians protecting Canada: Grand Prix Montreal had a bit of everything. Except Mounties. There were not nearly enough Mounties.

  1. Top Stories of GP Santiago | Frank Karsten

Red-Green Energy rises, sweet plays, Mother's Day makeup, and Sasso triumphs. That's quite a bit for one event.

Oddly enough, this tournament had plenty of Mounties. Who knew?

  1. StarCityGames Louisville Open Weekend

Team tournaments are a blast, so if you missed it and you've got the time, check out the replay on the SCG Twitch archive page. No Mounties included.

  1. An Introduction to Competitive 1v1 EDH: Ready, Set, Grind! | Channel Fireball | Rachel Agnes

Rachel Agnes makes her ChannelFireball debut with a competitive look at the Magic Online 1v1 Commander format. Her bent on the site will be toward competitive Commander, so she spends this first article laying the groundwork for what the format looks like (hint: it's very blue) and what the basics you should know are.

After Those, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. The Command Center – Rhonas the Indomitable | MTG Card Market | Troy Bishop

This one had me at Arena + Rhonas the Indomitable.

  1. Wild Research: Fortelling the Second Sun | MTG Mint Card | Hapless Researcher

Approach of the Second Sun and As Foretold in the same deck? Be still my brewing heart.

  1. Has Magic Become Too Homogenous? | Gathering Magic | Abe Sargent

Sargent examines Magic's hive mind and asks whether we've all become too much alike in our deck-building proclivities.

  1. Canadian Highlander Amonkhet Set Review | Canadian Highlander | Jer and Liam

You thought we were done with set reviews? Not hardly. We've already been through the main formats, so now it's time for the ones on the fringes. If you're already a fan of the format, I don't need to convince you. If you're not, maybe 52 minutes of people talking about cards you've already got a bead on will.

What People Are Talking About

He may not have won the Grand Prix (he finished 36th with a record of 11-5), but Shaheen Soorani won our hearts this weekend with the return of Blue-Black Control. It certainly had people abuzz during the stream, and I wouldn't be shocked if we see an uptick in people copying Soorani's style.

Deck of the Day

  1. Kevin Jones's Temur Marvel

Congratulations to Kevin Jones for winning Grand Prix Montreal with Temur Marvel!
