Blake is the content manager for, making him the one you should email if you have thoughts on the website, good or less good (or not good). He's a longtime coverage reporter and hasn't turned down a game of Magic in any format ever.

The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on June 2, 2017. Today's Update is brought to you by the D&D Stream of Annihilation.

What to Watch This Weekend

  1. Grand Prix Amsterdam | | 12 a.m. PT/3 a.m. ET/7 a.m. UTC
  2. Grand Prix Omaha | | After the Grand Prix Amsterdam broadcast

It's a Grand Prixtrabonanza!

Yes, I'm going to stick with that.

We have three Grand Prix on the weekend and two broadcasting on Amsterdam goes first and Omaha's broadcast will follow immediately on its tail, providing hours upon hours of Standard coverage this weekend. So load up on snacks, cancel all of your plans, and settle in for a long weekend of Magic from around the globe.

And if you want the full experience, you can also follow Grand Prix Manilla via text coverage on the website.

Today's Must

  1. No Longer a One-Deck Metagame | Channel Fireball | Ondřej Stráský

Marvel is the deck everyone will be aiming for at our Grand Three this weekend, but Stráský sees a shift in the metagame that might even things out a bit.

After Those, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. So You Want to Beat Aetherworks Marvel? | MTG Card Market | Dylan Donegan

Don't we all? (Including Ondřej Stráský.)

Donegan has some actual advice for doing just that. I just have pithy comments. His way is far more useful.

  1. Amonkhet in Modern | Top Level Podcast | Mike Flores and Patrick Chapin

Glory-Bound Initiate? Who knew. But the exerting 3/1 isn't the only Amonkhet card making its presence felt in Modern. And it's only a matter of time before Slither Blade gets added to that list as well.

  1. Modern Jund Deck Guide | Channel Fireball | Reid Duke

Grand Prix Las Vegas isn't that far away, and Reid Duke did just take this deck to a Top 4 at a Open. And he is one of the best teaching writers in Magic. And I am using all of these italics to emphasize things. How can you say no to any of that? How?

  1. Blue-Black Control | Mana Deprived | Semulin

Back to Standard. Looking for something different? Shaheen Soorani piloted this deck at Grand Prix Montreal a few weeks back, and Semulin takes it for a spin and explains his thinking along the way.

What People Are Talking About

Despite the event at the Manila resort yesterday, the Grand Prix will continue tomorrow with a late start to implement additional safety measures. And we hope everyone stays safe and has a positive Grand Prix experience.

The Stream of Annihilation is a D&D event unveiling the new story. Why feature that here? Well, one, we just like our D&D friends. But, two, Elaine Chase, my boss's boss and one of probably the five most important people in the Magic universe, will be on the stream!

(How's that for sucking up?) (But, seriously, watch the stream. It'll be a blast.)

Deck of the Day

  1. Four-Color Planeswalkers

You know what the most powerful part of the Aetherworks Marvel deck is? The fact that the rest of the deck surrounding it—the Temur Energy shell—is so good it's basically a deck on its own.

Magic Online player SpringRoll85 took that shell—the Rogue Refiners, the Whirler Virtuosos, Attune with Aether, and more—and added Oaths and a slew of planeswalkers and calmly went 5-0 in a Competitive Standard League.

Actually, I have no idea if they were calm or not, but they were certainly 5-0.
