The June 22, 2017 Update

By Nicholas Wolfram

Nicholas Wolfram fell promptly in love with tabletop and video games when he was only two years old, and he has been writing about them since he figured out how words worked. Now he puts together words about Magic, which he started playing way back in 2000.

The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on June 22, 2017. Today's Update is brought to you by Razaketh, the Foulblooded. I am definitely giving him that honor by my own free will.

Today's Previews

  1. Razaketh, the Foulblooded | Gathering Magic | Jason Alt

Lilian's third Demon may already be dead as far as Magic Story goes, but he's still alive and well in the Hour of Devastation set itself. And following in that idiot (Razaketh's words, not mine) Griselbrand's steps, he's got a powerful effect for the cost of a little life . . . and maybe a creature.

  1. River Hoopoe| MTG: Young Mage | The Rhino

I'm not sure what's better: the adorable little Bird in the art here or the safari-themed video that reveals it. I'm gonna go with both. They're both better.

  1. Uncage the Menagerie| LoadingReadyRun | Friday Nights

This is what happens when Menagerie Liberator overpowers Vizier of the Menagerie.

  1. Djeru, With Eyes Open | IGN Germany | Sebastian Ossowski

Here's a quick translation for you non-German speakers:

Djeru, With Eyes Open
Legendary Creature – Human Warrior
When Djeru, With Eyes Open enters the battlefield, you may search your library for a planeswalker card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle your library.
If a source would deal damage to a planeswalker you control, prevent 1 of that damage.

I know it's going to be difficult, but try not to sing anything to the tune of any Creed song every single time you play Djeru. And definitely don't do it every time he prevents a damage to a planeswalker. Or the entire time that you are searching out a planeswalker for his ability. Under the sunlight.

  1. Claim // Fame | Masters of Modern

Aggressively costed black-red aftermath card? Seems appropriate for a Bolas set.

  1. The Scarab God | The Mana Source

Here it is: the final God of Amonkhet, corrupted by the God-Pharaoh himself! For some confusing flavor, why not try to eternalize a copy of Nicol Bolas?

  1. Earthshaker Khenra | | Split Second

Red Deck Wins players, start brewing.

  1. Five more cards from Australia | chinglishtv

Five cards were previewed overnight (well, it was night for me) by chinglishtv, an Australian streamer who has corned the market on pointing at Hour of Devastation preview cards with his trusty blue pen. Check out Hope Tender, Fervent Paincaster, Steward of Solidarity, Vizier of the True, and Resolute Survivors.

  1. More to come

Keep an eye on Channel Fireball for something very . . . flexible.
