The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on August 17, 2017. Today's Update is brought to you by Commander, lore, and by Commander lore.

Today's Must

  1. Dragons | Gathering Magic | Sam Keeper

This one is a must-read for any lore aficionados who have even a whiff of interest in the lore of Magic's Dragons—particularly The Ur-Dragon.

After That, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. No More Tilt | ChannelFireball | Will Jonathan

Can you imagine? A world with no tilt? What a world that would be.

  1. Commander 2017 Continued | Hipsters of the Coast | Ryan Sainio

Sainio signs off on the C17 commanders and how best to put them to work.

  1. Commander Review: Commander 2017 Part 1 (White, Blue, Black, Red) | MTGGoldfish | Tomer Abramovici

Commander reviews! Commander reviews for everyone!

  1. Rhystic Study: Arahbo, Roar of the World | MTG Mint Card | Prophet of Kruphix

Let's continue on the Commander train, but we'll get a bit more specific. The Prophet goes feline with this look at a Cat and Equipment deck featuring everyone's favorite Roar of the World.

  1. Mr. Steal Your Rebound Girl | Gathering Magic | Jason Alt

More specifics! Here, Alt utilizes Taigam, Ojutai Master—before he went all Sultai—and thieving spells to attempt to steal all the things. And he would have gotten away with it if it weren't for those meddling kids!

  1. Riley's Modern Life: GP Birmingham Report | MTG.one | Riley Knight

Knight has become a favorite in the commenting booth—but what about Riley Knight commenting on Riley Knight commenting? Sure he's doing it in written form here, so you don't get to hear the dulcet tones of his voice, but it's still worth it.

Oh, and then he does it again (ish) for ChannelFireball. People love them some Riley Knight.

What People Are Talking About

  1. Lore of Command 2017: Vampires | Archive Trap Mini | Jay Annelli

Annelli is doing some strong work this week looking at the lore behind the C17 characters. The Vampires entry today is no exception.

Deck of the Day

  1. Temur Tower

Thanks to Magic Online player Danker, we have the triumphant return of Temur Tower! And it looks . . . pretty much the same.

Abrade is an upgrade, but otherwise this deck is pretty much exactly the same—down to the single Brutal Expulsion—as it was when it was very, very nearly a tier 1 deck during the Copy Cat era. Shielded Aether Thief is particularly neat against Ramunap Red, as the flash ability means it can come down after the bevy of "can't block" abilities have been triggered—giving you more of that sweet, sweet energy.

Basing a deck around an artifact is risky with all the Abrades running around, but between the four Towers, the Negates, and the Disallows, you certainly have more Towers and ways to protect them than they have Abrades.
