The Daily Magic Update is a roundup of everything Magic you should know on August 21, 2017. Today's Update is brought to you by two brothers, both alike in dignity. And also their ability to play Magic.

What You Might Have Missed This Weekend

  1. Grand Prix Denver Top Moments | Wizards of the Coast | Marc Calderaro

I won't spoil this one, as Grand Prix Denver more than lived up to its billing this weekend, featuring a dynamic, complex Standard format, interesting brews, and a thrilling, historic Top 8. You can rewatch the full weekend, or just catch some highlights, on our Twitch video archive.

  1. Can Cat Tribal Be Competitive? Commander 2017 Cat Deck Review | The Command Zone | Jimmy Wong and Josh Lee Kwai

Only if it wants to be.

What People Are Talking About

Not only did the brothers face one another in the semifinals, they became the first brothers to Top 8 back-to-back Grand Prix together. It was a historic weekend for a pair of brothers who are quickly becoming the best Grand Prix players on the planet.

Grand Prix Denver might have been historic in and of itself, but GenCon celebrated history in its own ways, including this drool-worthy draft that Luis Scott-Vargas made public for all to be jealous over.

After Those, Read, Watch, or Listen to These

  1. Breaking! 34 people from 26 countries join Hareruya Hopes all at once!! | Hareruya English

This is certainly cool and new and worth keeping an eye on. Hareruya Hopes is basically an umbrella for players on the cusp of breaking out in pro Magic. The article not only details which countries have participants, but interviews a few of those players. It'll be interesting to revisit this list in a year or two.

  1. Decks We Didn't Play at Pro Tour Hour of Devastation | ChannelFireball | Paulo Vitor Damo da Rosa

My guess is they didn't play "Eldronas" because they didn't want to have to try to explain the name, even though it—and everything else in this article—looks like a cool, powerful deck.

  1. Commander Review: Commander 2017 Part 2 (Green, Colorless, Multicolor, Lands) | MTGGoldfish | Tomer Abramovici

Commander reviews continue, probably right up until the release of Commander (2017 Edition) this Friday, when all your fancy Cat dreams come true. Bathe in yet another one.

  1. Travis the Cursed | The Mana Pool | Chewie and the Dorks

More Commander talk, and this time they've named our unfortunate Planeswalker—Travis. But there's much, much more than that in this 2-plus-hour podcast.

  1. Commander 2017: Cage, Set, Match | StarCityGames.com | Bennie Smith

Bennie goes deeeeeeeep on Mairsil, the Pretender. And it's all the right kinds of crazy.

Deck of the Day

  1. Brad Nelson's Temur Energy

Hard not to be the deck of the day when three exact copies of the deck finish 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Brad Nelson won the whole thing, but he battled his good friend Brian Braun-Duin in the finals and his own brother in the semifinals before that—all playing the exact same 75 cards.

Congratulations to all three players, and to Temur Energy for helping take them there.
